    Hi again,

After much debating, I finally decided to go ahead and order the W3J with an upgraded (100gb 7200rpm) HDD, last Thurs from www.asuslaptop.co.uk

On friday, or maybe saturday, I came on here and started reading about the new model with the T2500, and that it should retail at the same price

When I ordered it they did not have it in stock and told me that I would have to wait a couple of weeks for the next shipment. I phoned them again last night and he said that this shipment would arrive next tuesday (20th).

I have already e-mailed them to ask but they haven't replied yet. But what I want to know is whether I will be getting the new W3J with the T2500, or just the current model with the T2400?

Is the W3J-H026H even going to be released in the U.K?

    Cheers again

The next production group is supposed to have the T2500, at least the NA batch. If your vendor is OOS, then they're probably waiting for their next shipment to fill their current orders, and you'll likely get the refresh model - but, things tend to be different between Asus NA and the European subsidiary in terms of model availability etc, so their incoming order might still be the current model. Best to wait until you hear from them.

I just ordered a W3j from asuslaptop.co.uk after much dithering. They assured me it was in stock at the time. However, I paid by bank transfer to save a few percent. Should of taken 3 days to go through, but asuslaptop claimed they didn't get it until a week later (even though my bank told me it should have gone through quicker than that). By this time they were saying it was out of stock and i'd have to wait for the next shipment (next wednesday). Bummer. Still maybe it'll be the new spec? My advice ... if your spending £1224 anyway, you might as well spend the extra on paying by credit card and get the delivary straight away.

I ordered mine on the 8th and paid by credit card. Phoned them last week and the guy said they were expecting the next shipment next week (19th onwards) I'm getting the HDD upgraded aswell which the guy said would take an extra couple of days.

I've been searching for the W3J all over the web (U.K), and it seems to me that pretty much nowhere has it in stock at the mo. Nexus13 said they were getting stock at the end of the month.

What I want to know is this:
    1. Do Asus deliver stock to all the retailers at the same time? if they do then I've got a strange feeling that we won't get our orders till early July
    2. Does anyone know if the refresh model is coming to the U.K, nothing on ASUS' web-site, retailers don't seem to have heard anything?

They'd better be getting it this week. I ordered mine on the 7th and they told me it was in stock then. Pretty pissed they didn't reserve me one when I made the order.

ASUS sends all laptops to distrobuters, whom then distrobute it to the dealers, so they all get it at the same time

just what I thought. Looking at other web-sites in the U.K, they're estimating to take delivery end of june/beginning of July. So I'm guessing www.asuslaptop.co.uk will be getting them at the same time  :(

If they tell me they're not getting them this week when I ring them tomorrow, I'm gonna be one angry mo-fo.

    Glad to hear that.

Phoned them earlier and he said that he was waiting for their supplier to get back to him to confirm that the W3J's would be delivered to them today. He said he'd get back to me within an hour and that was at 12:00

Hope you didn't get the only one they had :(

How come you guys settled for the W3? What persuaded you to go with Asus as opposed to other brands? £1224 is quite a hefty price tag!

Also, had you seen the W3 in person before you bought it?

    :D :D :D Confirmed it should be here Thursday :D :D :D

    Can't wait.

Radditz, in answer to your question:
I have not seen the W3J in person but have looked at all the pictures I can find on here and other sites as well as reading all of the comments people have posted about how good the build quality is. If I don't think it's up to scratch, then I can send it back within 7 days.

I chose the W3J because I need a laptop for when I start my Industrial Design couse at uni. I wanted the most powerful and portable machine currently available so that It should last me for the 4 year duration of the course.

I considered the Dell D620, but was put off by the GPU (only really good for C.A.D programs-not gaming), the screen (though I gather W3J's isn't the best), and the mono speaker. Plus I just don't really like the look of it, and with decent specs it worked out to be more than the W3J.

I also looked at the V6J, which IMO was pretty much perfect, apart from the piece of poo GPU it comes with, GFX 7400, the slightly large footprint (14" is just that little bit more portable) and the lack of s-video.

The only major flaw I could find with the U.K W3J is the HDD it comes with, hence I ordered it with a 100GB 7200rpm=warpspeed :D :D

    Hope that helps

I've not seen the W3J in person, but as J.A.G said, from what you read Asus has one of the best build qualities around. I like the idea of the metal lid. I needed a powerful, reliable, light laptop for writing my Functional Genomics thesis on. I is also nice that I might occationally be able to play games.

My critera were: A core duo processor (I do lots of multitasking), 1GB memory and a GPU with dedicated graphics memory. All in a package weighing no more than 2.6kg (the weight of my current system).

I considered the Dell 6400, an acer system, the zepto and the A8j. In the end I decided the Dell was too big and heavy, and neither it nor the acer had the build quality I require (the last thing I wanted while I was writing my thesis was to deal with having to have repairs). The A8jm isn't actually avalible in this contry. The zepto was a big of an unknown quantity, so that I decided that since the machine was hopefully going to last about 4-5 years, it was worth spending that little bit extra.

    Cheers JAG and Sudders.

I was going to buy the A6Jc (T2300, 1GB RAM, go7300) for £780 which i thought was a good price. I went into my local Micro Anvika store and they had the laptop in the shop. I was shocked by the screen because it was so dull and the colours seemed really washed out. I was able to compare the screen to a Qosmio F30, Sony FE21H and Amilo Pi1536. The Asus had the worst screen by far. Since I use my laptop all the time and I have a crappy screen now and hate it, I need a good screen. I decided not the buy the A6 after that. The W3 has "splendid colour" technology that sopposed to increase brightness/contrast - is that why the W3 screen is better?

Well I got mine this morning. I've only had a short time to play with it, but the screen looks good to me. But then I can only really compare it to the screen on my old machine, which is 5 years old now.

Mines coming tomorrow cos of the hard drive upgrade. Sod's law though because I've got exams all day tomorrow and so am likely to miss it

Just to check Sudders, did it come with the bluetooth mouse and bag?

Who did "asuslaptop" use for delivery, just so I can find out where the nearest depot will be.

    Enjoy

Got mine today, and all I can say is so far I'm really impressed with it. It is especially rapid with the 7200rpm HDD. Will be playing BF2 tomorrow with any luck so can give it a good caning.

Mine is the one with the T2400, and I don't think the U.K spec is due to change, none of the other retailers i asked had heard anything from ASUS about a change in spec.

Your best bet is to phone ASUS U.K headquarters, the numbers on ASUS' web site somewhere, and ask them.

So happy I went for this baby, the screen is better than I thought it would be aswell. O.k, so the viewing angles are quite limited, but when you get it right it's clear and bright with minimal light leakage, if any. Plus I've got no dead pixels :D
