is it suppose to be better then the x5 newegg has out?
-
To my knowledge the 9650M-GT scores around 4600-4900 3DMARK 2006 while the GT 120 scores around 5500 (DO NOT TAKE THIS AS FACT as these are numbers from the Notebook check page and not always accurate) Just numbers i remember hearing around. So I do believe so.
"""NVIDIA® GeForce™ GT 120M - Fast Forward Visual Experience for All
The NVIDIA® GeForce™ GT 120M features the latest NVIDIA® CUDA™ technology, which harnesses a massive 110 gigaflops of computing power for a myriad of applications such as video conversion and High Definition enhanced DVD playback with up to 15 times higher frame rate. Users can enjoy greater productivity with CUDA-enhanced photo and video editing applications such as CyberLink PowerDirector and motionDSP vReveal. With DirectX 10 support, users can experience realistic in-game texture details, high dynamic range lighting and special visual effects. NVIDIA PureVideo® HD handles 100% of the video decoding process, producing 1080p High Definition visuals with sharper images, smoother transitions and more vibrant colors.
With a 3DMark® 2006 score of 5,431, the ASUS N81Vg delivers up to 15 times better performance than most other 14-inch notebooks, thus satisfying discerning users with a penchant for High Definition audio and visual enjoyment while on the go.""""
So is it a HUGE boost? Hardly Maybe 1-2 FPS at most. Is it worth it for people who have NOT made a choice yet? Yeah probably. Also this Laptop is a pure 14 incher NOT a 14.1 So it will be undoubtedly Smaller and lighter then the 14.1 9650M N series. -
thanks for the reply psxsage. so that means that it will not be built on the 15.4 chassis which people were complaining about? I wonder if they changed the keyboard.
-
The 9650M GT DDR2 > GT 120M DDR2. If anyone has the GT 120M, please post the clocks, but they should be lower than the 9650M GT since the model that is better is the GT 130M.
-
The 120M consistently outscores the 9650 in any benchmark I have seen thus far. So i also would like to see the Clocks information as i have yet to see ANY benchmark putting the 9650 ahead of the 120M
-
Nvidia's naming system is confusing as hell :/ (at least now in the transition process).
Also, Newegg's website doesn't mention an LED monitor though that seems like it would be a typo (after all, all of the N series has an LED monitor currently).
A rather basic review I read somewhere said it gets up to 4 hours in battery conservation mode (with 3 hours in performance mode) which seems better than that of the N80Vn-X5 by a decent amount IIRC. -
Maybe if the GT 120M was GDDR3 and 9650M GT was DDR2, which most are. GT 130M is actually the successor of the 9600M GT (the 9650M GT was a refresh). GT 120M is supposed to be around 9600M GT (whose GDDR3 consistently beats out the 9650M GT DDR2) and to replace 9600M GS. All of the following are 128-bit w/ 32 SP:
9700M GT: 625/1550/800 (core, shader, GDDR3 memory)
GT 130M: 600/1500/800 (500 for DDR2)
9650M GT: 550/1375/800 (400 for DDR2)
9600M GT: 500/1250/800 (400 for DDR2)
GT 120M: unknown, supposedly btw 9600M GS/GT
9600M GS: 430/1075/800 (400 for DDR2) -
With Nvidias naming scheme I'm not certain either way. However That being said in any single Benchmark said iv'e seen higher scores for the 120 over the 9650.

As of this moment there is not a GDDR3 120M available to my knowledge. -
yay finally! how long before it comes out in canada lol
-
-
I'm assuming that's not in US dollars? If it is good lord the Newegg Version is 999$.
-
yea it is 999 usd
-
The weight is a bit upsetting i must say. Thanks for the link some nice updated information. It does confirm my numbers on the 120M also. Which would in fact put it above the 9650 i believe.
-
how about battery life? will it have a longer battery than the vt? since its p9600 instead of t9600
i donno about the graphic card wat consumption...
and how much worse from the n81vp is it?
and how come nothing is said about the warranty in newegg? :/ -
I still think that the 120M is a tad below the 9650M GT. Go to the Zepto forum on here and do a search for the NOX A14, this 14.1 laptop is offered with the Nvidia 9650M GT DDR3 and you should find some post of people with their 3DMark2006 scores of 5700+, I believe that someone also got 6100+

I hope this helps. God Bless -
We are comparing DDR2 models however Not GDDR3. So if the 9650 GDDR3 model is only scoring 6100 that would confirm my statement of the DDR2 120M outperforming the 9650 DDR2.(And to stress I'm not certain of this But i have not seen ANY core information Stating the DDR2 9650> DDR2 120m. yet i Have seen information Stating 120M> 9650.)
It's interesting to see there is a GDDR3 model though =). -
-
evil rabbi, give newegg like a week at most to get the specs straightened out. Since it is a new listing not all the specs are up but i can assure you it will come with the 2 year and 1 year accidental.
Reviews say up to 4 hours of battery life and 3 with max settings. The p series processors use less battery then the t does.
Also, i see you get no carrying case and usb mouse with it according to the pictures. Same keyboard as n80? -
How lame, this comes out ONE day after I get the X5 from newegg for the SAME PRICE. AGH.
-
minimo try to make your x5 doa
-
Even if it's DOA Newegg will just offer a SAME item replacement i believe by there policy.
-
Eh, oh well. I can live without the 700 30 Marks
It's just kinda grrrr y'know.
Seems like the rest of the specs are identical so oh well. -
-
yea but he can get lucky and newegg won't have any more so he can getta refund or chose another if he tries hard. It doesn't look like this n81 comes with the bag and mouse?
-
ok, now im confused. This notebook is in the N80 series? so it is the replacement of the N80Vn, or the replacement of N81Vp-which is shown on the Asus website. (I can't seem to find the N81Vg on the Asus website)
in the end, is this basically the same as the N80Vn, but with 14'' screen and a different graphics card-LED screen verdict notwithstanding?
I was thinking of getting the F6j, but after reading reviews about build quality and what not, I was looking at the N80Vn-X5, which fit well with my requirements.
How else is the N81Vg different? -
-
i'd be very disappointed if this doesn't come with case and mouse. the carrying case was such a draw factor for me. that itself is at least a 30-40 dollar value.
-
Here it is on the Asus website http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=yTLtFbatbqSkCohB&content=overview
-
someone mentioned it is 14 inch not 14.1 which means it is on a diff chassis then the n80 x5?
-
According to ASUS website specs
13.5W x 10.1D x 1.4-1.5H in inches
so yeah it's pretty much the same size as the N80-X5, looks like the same chassis to me. -
is a 14 inch screen compared to a 14.1 inch screen that much difference..?
-
NO!
Screen bezel is slightly bigger, you probably won't be able to notice even if you put them side by side.
C'mon man we are only talking about a tenth of a inch! -
wow well i feel stupid haha
so i guess i'm just waiting for this thing to come out in canada since newegg.com doesn't ship north of the border. sucks to be me lol. on another note the product page shows it as a lot blacker than the vp. i'm guessing that's just the lighting -
after looking for 6 mo., and getting a DOA laptop last month, I decided on this model. i purchased it from newegg and it will ship soon. if anyone is dying to know something about this laptop, let me know. I will definitely be writing as extensive of a review as soon as possible.
-
Can you confirm that it has bluetooth and an LED backlight when you get it?
-
How is the size of this thing compared to the g50vt? I just got the best buy g50vt, but it's a lot larger than I anticipated, so I may return it. Don't really feel like lugging this thing around, hahaha.
-
review asap plz kthx =D
-
Any idea whether vista is 32bit or 64bit on this laptop? newegg support staff was completely useless...ugh.
-
jiminikiz, did you get your laptop yet?
-
I've been thinking about purchasing the N81Vp (which has the HD 4650), but should I get the N81Vg instead? How much worse is the 120M?
-
It should be quite a step down. The HD 4650 > 9700M GT > GT 130M > 9650M GT > 9600M GT > GT 120M...
-
Think of the "g" in N81vg as geforce to keep the model seperate from N81vp with ATI...just a thought... =)
-
-
Lol...
-
If anyone has this yet, I'd like to request a GPUz screenshot so that I can find out the exact clocks...
-
lol i'm loving the vegetable vs very powerful comparison
-
What I am wondering about is the effect of less powerful but also less power hungry GT 120M and P8400 vs ATI 4650 and T9550 on battery life and heat. I am willing to take a hit on 3DMark for an extra hour of battery life. On the other hand if both battery life and heat advantages are neglibible, there is no point in getting the Nvidia version, unless one is aiming to save $300, which is also very reasonable.
I do wish that Asus put together a GT 130M with P9600 version of this laptop for say $1400 on NewEgg. IMO, that would have been worth the cash, and would have better power footprint then ATI/T9550 version. -
The CPUs won't give you any noticeable difference in battery life. On battery and unstressed, the difference is <1W. As for the GPUs, the HD 4650 is pretty efficient with power but I don't know how much difference there will be with the GT 120M since the 120M specs aren't released. But the performance benefit will definitely be noticeable as the HD 4650 >> GT 120M (even beats the 130M).
In terms of power, I have the max specs as 25W for HD 4650, while 130M is still 23W. The current 9600M GS is 20W, which I assume will be around the level of the 120M. But these are max figures, similar to the T/P processors, it doesn't mean it will run that high hence the battery life won't be as pronounced as the power consumption figures describe. Only if you are gaming on the go or doing some serious number crunching/encoding, will the difference in power will be noticed. -
has anybody who's ordered had their laptop arrive yet?
