How high do you have to go in the new Nvidia cards to surpass a 9800m GS?

260M will quite effectively kill a 9800GS. But the 120/130M's are not comparable.

gt 160 might be comparable to the 9800m gs xD

I haven't heard of the GT 160M, but if you're referring to the GTS 160M, then it's basically the same as the 9800M GTS but with a lower TDP.

Thermal Design Power (Google: TDP). The GTS 160M (48W) is just a 55nm 9800M GTS (75W) w/ same clocks. Lower manufacturing process means less power consumed/wasted which in turn means less cooling needed.

I just bought this off newegg.ca when it was 1099. they just changed the price to 100 bucks more. for 500 dollars less than the n81vp, a 15% performance hit in 3dmark 06 is fine with me.

Whatever that means. Since 1000 to 1300 is a 300 dollar difference. And the 1000 gets you a P8600 vs the 1300 getting you the T9550 the +15% graphics boost and much better processor performance is worth the 300. Nice try though it was worth the shot.

He is listing Canadian pricing which obviously does not go by USD. That said, the N81Vg also should have better battery life and a slightly smaller form factor (14.1" vs. 14.0" screen XD). If you don't need a strong GPU then the N81Vg isn't a bad machine at all. Personally I would still go for the N81Vp though (You can find it cheaper at places like GenTechPC or ExcaliburPC).

Funny how video's on Asus laptops (netbooks excluded) are always scarce or non-existant? Been trying to find some video reviews on the N81 and the F6Ve, annoying!

Has anyone gotten one of these? What is the battery life like? What is the actual performance hit compared with the vp? I've been seriously thinking about buying one of these, but I haven't found much info yet.

Whatever. Canadian money is like monopoly money, it doesn't make much sense speaking in terms of it.

There's a review already up for the N81Vp. It is essentially the same as the N81Vg but with a better ATI HD3650 GPU.

But I need a review for the N81vg...the temperatures/battery life will be different, as well as the 3dmark scores and FPS rates on various games.

Hah Tcee, I can't wait for the review... for me its currently between the n81vg and the MSI gt627..Although I would rather go for the asus for its extra portability if it can handle L4D at high..
I'm not going to play THAT many games in college ;) Just L4D and CSS, so if the n81vg can handle those, im set...A small powerful laptop.

where are you going next year? just wondering...

btw, the U80V > N80vg in terms of battery life, 6 hours I read on some review for the u80v. The N80vg won't get more than 3:30 at the most, but it will still be better for gaming than the U80v.

the battery life is a huge plus for me, and honestly, i'm sure a 4570 will be able to play games like cod4 on lowered settings. it's not too much of a biggie for me because of the huge battery life..

i live in canada; going to waterloo next year if you know where that is ;p

Yep, and it looks like newegg is the only major seller of this model, why? currently no free shipping.

this model was announced back around Jan. and looks like it hit market just a couple/few wks ago.
