Hey there guys! check it out I found a link to new L50 series!

    http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=SRCH&Store_Code=GPS&search=L50VN

They appear to be classy variants of M50, and come equipped with Nvidia 9650GT 1GB DDR2. :)

Im not sure if there is much info for this card yet but I am willing to bet it should be basically a DDR2 version of the 9700GT or very close, so expect 5kish or near 3dmarks :D

Darn. :( I really like the style of the Best Buy G50VT but it looks like the non-Best Buy version uses the same color scheme as the G50V.

I'm hoping they end up actually being silver instead of that orange, but Gentech is telling me it won't, but I think it's a wait and see deal because I am not sure if Gentech has got them yet to be sure.

Is blueray and 140 GB worth the $190?

To me, the blueray doesn't do much unless you connect to HDMI HDTV, or else DVD movies are good enough for 17" LCD. Hardly noticeable, but possible.

So Blu-Ray won't be replacing DVD's in the near future?
If i have to buy it i will, but if i can i'll avoid having it? If it's just to watch movies i'll pass the chance of having it.

for $200 dollars and a HDD upgrade that's not a bad deal, look up how much the BD/DVDRW upgrade costs by itself.

I have a couple of HD displays so, BD would pay off for me.

I really don't think anyone has an idea of the color yet. The pictures they are using are the same pictures as for the g50v. It would seem odd that Asus would jump to a different color scheme just for Bestbuy. I imagine that would add allot of unnecessary expense. Plus, it seems the consensus has been against the orange. It's what stopped me from ordering the G50v (i'm glad I waited).

    I pre-ordered the g71g a2 last week =)

I actually prefer the orange color on the G50. I think the lid on the silver version was pretty ugly. (It helps though that i don't have to use my gaming laptop at work)

Has anyone done any real-world tests (with games and frame rates) on the 9800M GS? I'd love to see some if they're out there, but if they are I must have missed 'em. I am especially curious to know how the card preforms against the 9700 GT in the older G50 models...

they will have the 16" 16:9 aspect ratio launching in Nov using NVIDIA 9400M single chip found in MB and MBP with 9600 GT. Those G50Vt and G70Vt are hella ugly, destroy all my hopes since I was waiting for the new line. I guess I have to wait for the new series using NVIDIA chipset. Hard to bite on those ugly looking laptop when I am currently using U6S-A1

I would guess so. I have never heard of a RAM chip that did not contain a number of bytes equal to a power of 2. :) So, no 3GB chips.

8MB would be pretty low for RAM. ;) 8GB would be good for video editors that travel a lot.

I don't get what's the difference between the M and the L series, why are they so much more expensive (the M)?

Also the G series are more expensive than both of these, isn't the 1gb gddr2 superior than the G?

M50 meets F8.... with some U3 thrown in. I'm going to be interested in whether Asus has fixed their ACPI battery issues with this series.

To my knowledge, yes. The nearest call center is in Hungary, I'm not sure if they have also a service point there. So I expect the warranty will work, but the "pickup and return" part may be a problem due to the need for international shipping.

So, I can't just go to a local Asus service in Romania (if there is one) and repair it if I have to? I gotta send it to a center in Hungary or wherever is their service center for my area? Is there any explicit description of the international warranty on the genntech site or from Asus? I wanna be sure the warranty applies for my country as well as I wanna send over a laptop to my parents this holiday season and a valid international warranty would be nice.

That's the thing, I do not think there is an ASUS service in Romania since I do not see a phone number for that country on my warranty flier. The nearest is in Hungary.

As I said in my post above, the warranty should be valid, but I cannot guarantee it. You could perhaps call the number in Hungary (let me look it up for you I will edit the message with it when I find it) and inquire explicitly whether they service claims from Romania, or otherwise in what way does the international warranty work in Romania.

    Edit HU ASUS Service #: +361 350 4539 / 119

There are only 2 slots, they would use a 4GB+2GB for 6GB.

The N50Vn seems great, but my only gripe I have against Asus is their terrible battery life, slightly overweight, unoptimized (ie. battery hogging) Express Gate, and the ionizer seems useless.

Yes indeed, that is also possible. I have no idea why it has not crossed my mind. Well, sometimes it seems to be on a break or something (my mind, that is).
