    Hi all,

I just picked up my A6Ne, and I have to say that I'm really impressed with the overall quality, especially based on the features they pony up for the price. But, after tweaking a bit, I'm left with a couple of questions:

    1) The touchpad scroll function doesn't seem to work in Firefox. ANY idea why? I've messed with the "virtual scrolling" f'ns in the setup, etc, but no go. Do I need another set of drivers? Please, I pray, don't make me use IE.

    2) The sound from the speakers is reasonable, but it's horrible from the headphone port. It almost sounds like there's some sort of SRS or generic surround feature turned on, but I cannot find the option to disable it for the life of me. My Senheisser headphones are hating me for it! Btw, it's a Realtek AC97 card.

Any help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks.

    1) Hmm, try reinstalling the synaptics driver.

    2) This sounds like it COULD be an issue with your power source... some sort of interference. Perhaps go to futureshop and pick up one of those thingies...I forgot what they're called...but they stop power source interference and give you good, "clean" power. Sorry this isn't more specific. LOL. If you don't have any problems while running on battery, then it's definitely your power source.

    Hope this helps.

As for 2): Forget the power as a cause. While 'dirty' power can cause interference in a desktop PC, the power brick on a notebook will insulate it from such issues as well as any UPS or surge protector could.

Maybe you have that silly reverb/echo/environment turned on in the Soundman control panel applet. All those settings do, IMO, is make the sound varying degree of horrible.

Thanks guys. I'm inclined to agree with bugmenot that it's not likely power supply noise - a) it's heavily filtered b) this isn't noise per se, it really does sound like the @#$@#$ "3D-sound" effects that used to come on my cheap steroes. I just can't find where to turn it off for the life of me. (maybe it's called something I wouldn't expect?)

    Anybody?

That echo/reverb setting for the Realtek codec is locatded in 'Control Panel' -> 'Sound Effect Manager' -> 'Sound Effect tab' -> 'Environment'. Choose 'Headphone' and 'None'.

Might not be your problem but, from the way you describe it, it sounds like it could be. All those settings are awful with headphones, IMO. Can't understand how anyone would like to have them enabeled.

Just wanted to say thanks to both of ya:

I didn't think a driver update would be in order because the Asus LiveUpdate indicated everything was fresh, but it looks like they're also using generic drivers from Synaptics', which are updated on the company's website. I've now got scroll in Mozilla. yay!

And who'd have thunk that innocent looking "generic" option could be set to none? I swear I'd clicked every other button. I'm relieved this thing can indeed sound normal.

    Thanks again.
