It's a pretty good deal. You might want to upgrade to 2 gigs of ram though.

I've emailed Newegg asking about the Bluetooth and screen issues. Does anyone have the part # of the A8JSs with the CMO or AUO screens?

Most likely there is no bluetooth, and depending on stock, it could be AUO, but most likely CMO

The CMO is the good screen right? :)

No Bluetooth FTL though...hopefully I can find the module somewhere.

for that price why not get a G1? it defo has bluetooth and it already comes with 2gb RAM (so u don't hafta upgrade), and the screen's definitely a killer

    There's a few reasons...

    1. A8Js + 1GB stick = G1. But for a little less money.
    2. The G1 weighs nearly 7lbs., which is far too heavy for me.
    3. I don't really need a WSXGA screen...the 1440x900 is fine by me.

    Well

    $1600 is full retail.

So no full retail is not really a great deal. I mean, its full retail is a way better deal than like a dells full retail.
Its a good deal full retail... but odds are you can find it for less.

the g1s new full retail is 1900$ so buying the a8js at full retail and 1 gb ram is 200 less about but missing 40 gb of hd.

Newegg likely made a mistake here. Proportable has the same model and it has built in bluetooth. (4S024C)

Not all A8js notebooks have bluetooth, only a certain special edition of this machine does.

It's the same exact model, A8JS-4S024C.

I am pretty sure it has bluetooth.

Yes, the 024 model number comes with the 120gb hard drive and bluetooth (unless Newegg messed something up). The various older models come with variations of 100gb, 120gb, bluetooth, no bluetooth, but only the 024 comes with bluetooth and 120gb. You will definitely want to double check with Newegg but my GUESS is that this laptop also comes with the newer CMO screen. Should be a good deal for anyone that has to have the nvidia video card but, as far as value for your money, I still suggest you go with the a8jp.

I was considering the A8JP, but a few things turned me off:

    1. The X1700 is weaker than the 7700, and also draws on system memory in addition to its own.
    2. It has 2x512MB instead of 1x1GB, which makes upgrading a hassle. I'd be going to 2GB either way, and it makes more sense to get the A8Js for that reason.
    3. This A8Js has Vista pre-installed, so I don't have to worry about getting (or not getting) that upgrade in the mail.

My only real concern now is about the A8 line as a whole. I've heard they're extremely vulnerable to scratches and the like. Are they as fragile as I think?

Why don't you you just get the one for 1550 with XP Pro pre-installed? You can still upgrade to Vista... and yes it still has bluetooth, and the CMO screen.

I just recieved mine yesterday from newegg... the build is awesome, the screen could be brigther, and I'm sure its vulnerable to scratches.. other then that, theres ALOT of bloatware, but its pretty speedy.

I'd much prefer Vista Home Premium to Business. I have no need for those business-type features, and I like what HP edition has to offer.

PC Super Deals has the Vista A8JS Model for $1509 Preorder including free shipping, with an ETA of 2/20/2007. Not bad considering the XP models are going for around the same price. I assume once they get the stock, the price will go up, so preorder if you are interested.

Do you have a link? I couldn't find it through their website. We are talking about the Vista preloaded model here.

    My friend
pcsuperdeals is simply uploading a synnex sku number and description. I bet not a single person there knows what they are selling. And if you take their inventory as real time then your just fooling your self. The inventory they show they have is locked up. The eta they have is simply a synnex eta. The vista version of the a8js has been available for a few days now. Anyone who actually stocks these products knows that.

I don't disagree with you at all. But, giving them the benefit of the doubt, if they do get the units early next week, $1509 shipped can't be beat. I'm just sharing what I found for the OP who was looking for a good deal on the unit.

1509$ is **** good but the problem is these units will proabbly be all allocated before they even hit synnex warehouse.
