I was on another forum and an ASUS rep has posted a response concerning the G50V-A1 stating:
"That notebook is a great notebook and sells well. The specs are very nice and will get better as Asus are going to bring out another version that is a bit better in the coming months. P4 are making a premium on them with that price though...just be aware of that.
Regards,
Scott"
Have you guys heard about another laptop on the way??

Well there are a few things, there is the G70 with the dual 8700's and there is the other yet to come G70 with the 9800 in it, wich is probably the one being refered to. However I expect it to cost much more than the G50V-A1/A2 so unless you game a lot on your notebook or you have a lot of money the G50V still has a better niche.

Man, you sound like my wife! Always the reasonable one.
Back to the G50V again. -

Haha, I'll just take that as a compliment.
I am the price vs performance guy. You have to be otherwise you will end up with one of those $3000 laptops on your desk and a maxed out credit card in your wallet, all for no real good reason.
$1200 built my gaming desktop with dual 4850's and it can do all the maxed out 1920x1080 gaming while the laptop just keeps me going when I cant be at home. -
This is a concern buying a new laptop but its nothing you can escape.
I'm confident with the G50: it has power that won't become completely obsolete for a long while (~2 years), and its at a price that's easy to stomach compared to other high performance laptops. -

Not to mention there's always something newer with more oomph coming. Buy now, you never know what will hold up future models from being released.

Will this new laptop be a 15.4" like the G50V-A1?
"Yes it will. It will just be a few modifications and enhancements to the current model. What all it will have I have no clue yet."
I'd like to know what this new model will be like. Anyone heard anything? -
Im curious as well. I havent bought my G50 yet, but if this turns out better in the price ~ performance ratio, then.. might as well.
Btw Vicious, I really like the way you look at things. Very much agreed -
Well..lets think what it could possibly have. Better cpu, though the cost of a better cpu probably doesn't warrant the performance difference. Maybe they'll throw in a 8800 in there? And i *guess* they could throw ddr3 memory in there...which would make it an extremely expensive laptop.

now HK has G70SG
- 17" WUXGA(1920 x 1200)
- Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53 GHz) L2:6M
- Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS 512MB
- 4GB DDR2
- 2 x 320 GB (5400 rpm)
- 2X Blu-ray
- Windows Vista Ultimate
price:$2150 -
That price pretty much pierces my wallet
-
yesbut that is a very well priced deal!
-
True, but the only thing that really matters to me between that model and the G50 is the Video card, and Im not really willing to spend an extra $400 to $500 just to get that (minor?) upgrade
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Asus generally does model refreshes maybe 1-2x per year, but with the G50 just hitting the market in August it won't be up for it's turn until probably 1st qtr '09 earliest. -
-
I hope the new 15.4" won't look anything like the G50v.
-
You mean US$? It's certainly not HK$
so I guess it's US$, but I'll let wangnian confirm.
Keep in mind computers are cheaper in Hong Kong than in the West, usually (although US prices are pretty close). -
The reason why I think the actual US price will be higher is because the G71v with similar specs to the G50v + a 17" screen will be around $2000-2100.
The G70sg has a 9800 and possibly some more hard drive space, that means it should be at least a couple hundred more I think. -
hahah, i guess best buy got a waterdowned version of the g70 as well. Here are it's components:
17.1" WXGA+ Screen(1440x900)
Intel Core Duo T8100(2.1 Ghz)
Dual NVIDIA GeForce Go 8700M GT(1 GB)
400GB SATA hard drive (7200 rpm)
Double-layer DVD±RW/CD-RW(Speed not specified)
Windows Vista Ultimate
Price:$2,099
Now, if that computer up there is for real, and that price is real(the non best buy one)...Best Buy and Asus should be punished for attempting to sell this for 2100 dollars. -
I reemphasize that in Hong Kong electronics are often very cheap, so you can't really use Hong Kong prices to decide whether US or EU prices are reasonable or not.
(Well, actually, you could if the economy made any shred of sense at all, but it doesn't).
New ASUS better than G50V-A1 on the way??
