The G51Vx has been on Xotic PC for some time now. I know the G71Gx was on GenTechPC recently but i forget if the G51 was on when i looked last.

    Nice to see the M60.

@ChipMoney - I can trust you dont need links to find them, 1toppc.com or GenTechPC.com

The M60 comes with a Blu-Ray drive and they dont even give you the option to use the Blu ray to it's fullest potential without an external screen =\

So your saying they should remove the bluray drive and just charge the same price they were going to anyways?

actually, if you output it to a 1080P tv via HDMI you can use it to its full potential.

I'm jsut saying it would be nice to have an option that is better than 1366x768 especially in a machine that is marketed as a multimedia machine.

the M50 came with the option of a 1680x1050 screen. I would think they could offer some kind of better screen than the 1366x768

    Thanks for posting IKAS.

I was waiting for the prices for these new Asus Laptops.

Man I really hoped that Asus would of send these resellers a G51 laptop for around $1300-$1400 with a little bit better specs than the Best Buy model.

Well I cant afford a $2k laptop so here I come Best Buy hehe $1K laptop hehe :D

I dont believe the M50 came configurable at all, there was more than one model which gave you a choice. You now look at 1 model of the M60 and take it as all that will exist. Just like currently you can only get a G51 with a 1366x768 screen but in several weeks another model will be availiable and a month or two from them another one.

    All 3 models look fantastic
The N51 intrigues me with the 240M GT, haven't heard to much about it's performance but should run much cooler(die shrink) than the 260 GTX in the G51
I'm guessing it should be close but we will see

This is cool that they are releasing more sub models, but how does ASUS intend to cool a Quad and a 260M GTX with only 1 fan, it's an additional core plus a 10W TDP... in the G51.

Extra 10 watts at 100% load with the cache in full use. G71 is on single fan as well, as well as a couple of sager that break into this arena.

It's impressive that they have the QX9300 as an option; that at least suggests that it will be able to to run in the G51 without too many problems.

N51Vn use GDDR3 VRAM vs N51Vf use DDR2 VRAM, also the N51Vn will have new chassis.

We don't know about the battery life yet.

N81Vp-D1 is not a new model, it's still N81Vp using same mainboard and video card, but there is no ETA for the D1.

Wow, I'm totally surprised to already see a nvidia 40nm laptop.

I was about to pull the trigger on a laptop because I thought it would be a long while before Nvidia 40nm would make it to market.
I really hope to see a GTS 260M or 250M soon then.

Ok I am looking to buy a laptop for college and I'm heavily considering the Asus G51VX-RX05 through best buy. Should I wait for these new models to come out before I buy one? School doesn't start for a while but I am looking for a faster c2d than the 2.0 that is on the best buy website. Someone enlighten me please

You can always upgrade the CPU, it's not a big deal.
2.0 is not bad, it depends what games you play and what are your priorities when choosing a laptop..?

I guess the specs on the asus G51VX-RX05 are what i'm looking for but I just want a processor that will be able to pretty much run any game as smooth as possible for the next 4 years or so. I really like the gtx 260m but the processor just doesn't seem to match up to the video card to me. The laptop I am using now has a crappy video card and the processor is 1.8 ghz so it's time for an upgrade. Would it be difficult to swap out the CPU to something higher later on if need be? How expensive would that exchange be also?

No a swap is not difficult at all, there are a few guides made in this forum, but keep in mind that it will void the warranty.
You are right the CPU is certainly not top of the line, but it was chosen to keep the costs down of the final product. It's pulling back the GPU, so an upgrade would bring a perforomance increase in more demanding games.

Well, i would recommend the T9600, or at best the P9700. You can get the T9600 on Ebay for ~$270/ now. The P9700 is better due to the less power consumtion= less heat given off, however still new, rare and expensive.
I really doubt that any CPU atm wil be able to run games smootly in 4 years. But if u want the strongest Dual- Core than choose the T9900, but its very pricey.

Is anyone going to buy from them? If so, let me know how that goes. I am very interested in the G51 on this site....

Just hesitant about this overheating issue I keep reading about in the BB model...I'd imagine Quad core would only make it worse? 2x # of cores = 2x amount of heat?

1600$ for a quad? That's a LOT considering you can do that same upgrade yourself for $200.

Good to know, though, that the G51 supports 8GB of RAM and a BluRay drive. Loks like I have upgrading to do :D

The GT 240m in the N51Vn is very interesting... hopefully we'll see the GTS 250/260 shortly in some other laptops since nvidia seems to be pushing out the 40nm chips pretty quick!

STarting with the 999 dollar G51VX-RX05 If you piece it out per component the way it goes on the market its fair. The warranty 1 year extended plus a year of accidental from hp in the same price range is approx 200 bucks, running total so far 1200.

The screen, hard to value but based on the Alienware M15x's upgrade from 1440x900 to 1920x1200 is 100 bucks we will go with that, running total 1300, add bluetooth for 30 bucks, running total 1330. Backpack and mouse we will under value to 70 bucks, running total 1400.

Cpu from the cruddiest penryn you cant even buy to having a quad core easily fills the gap at 200 dollars seeing as how HP charges 250 to go from a P8400 to a Q9000, were in a worse position.

G51VX-A1 Pieced it out FAIRLY and reached 1600 from the 1000 the G51VX-RX05 costs! Any other company would have charged you MORE for LESS!

God willing, I'm getting slightly used but retail-level Intel QX9300 from Ebay in a couple of days, provided my $350 max bid can keep up.

    I'll keep you guys posted.

I'm almost definitely going to to add another hard drive, which should be peanuts comparing to changing out a CPU.

I might add RAM, but word on the street 2x3 or 2x4 isn't worth it.

    ****UPDATE****
    G51
The retail version will come with a BLACK lid with BLUE pattern on the front.
    NICE!
Looks exactly like the first G50Vt-X1 from BB. Yes the old school look, and better looking than the WHITE G51 we have seen posted. Just my opinion. ;)
The different color scheme came as shocker of sorts because it was unexpected, the only pictures of the G51 were WHITE!
    ****UPDATE PART 2****
In addition to the great looking laptop you get
    1. A FREE high quality gaming backpack
    2. FREE EEE stick comes bundled and 9 games included.
The EEE stick is a motion sensor controller in the mold of the Nintendo Wii control pad....NEAT!
    FREE stuff is always good
This is getting better and better every day!

GD luck, but watch it, once I was bidding a CPU on Ebay and was so happy to get a T9600 for $200, when literally someone made a higher bid in the last damm second.
Any chance they inlcuded the OLED display in any of the resellers models?

I wouldn't say it is so so...
It's got a Quad-Core processor, 4GB RAM, and a good video card. The price is pretty fair for all that plus a 640GB storage capacity. I would say that's a good deal for a pre-built laptop.
