I can get the new 15.2" Powerbook for $1950 with tax and the W3V would set me back about $1700.
What to do, what to do?

It's like comparing apples to oranges... or apples to pcs I guess....
First....... there's the obvious apple vs pc....
Second... you're looking at a 15.2" widescreen, matte type screen vs a 14" widescreen, glaretype.
Third..... You're comparing 128mb ATI 9700 to 64mb ATI x600 (with hypermemory up way beyond 128mb)
I don't care how you cut it........ unless you have a NEED for apple software, going with a W3v or V6v or anything else for that matter is going to be "better" in terms of price, performace, features, and updated tech........ ... not bad, but certainly for the price tag. -
agreed. if u're worried about quality, asus does make the laptop cases for apple so the w3v and powerbook quality are gonna be pretty even.

Plus Apples come with 90 days of software support and one year hardware warranty. Unless you want complete care which I think is $349.

humm... that's a good idea... -
Was only trying to point out is was less than a typical notebook and certainly less than an Asus.

.... no, I think it's a good idea
... that's about the time all the viruses and spyware starts to build up on people's systems and those who don't know how to take care of it are difficult to deal with..... We need to come up with a new system of support to be able to better take care of customers...... but that can't come free.... There are many customers who want paid overnight shipping both ways on a repair job... That's difficult to do when that alone would more than eat up any profit on any of the system we sell.... and there are people who want a higher level of support both like what I mentioned above and more indepth remote assistance type stuff.

Yup. Not really a good comparison here. Just like this thread on the "V6V or Powerbook": http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=27857

And yet again, Asus wins...
:asus: -
I have the latest drivers from ATI's site.... however i cant get my card to list above 128mb for video... this is weird cause it was listing at 320mb of ram with the first vid drivers... switched to 128mb when i used ATI's official drivers... haven't been able to get it to change since.
-
Do you have 512mb of RAM? I think the x600 will only use 256mb if you have 1gb or more...but as someone else pointed out in a different thread, the extra hypermemory is probably superfluous at best...

If you want to know more about hypermemory you can check out the w3 demo page I did up back in the summer:

i have a gig of ram. I got it to show 320mb before.
