Looks like Asus is introducing a new 13" notebook soon.. Specs for the F6Sg are:

CPU: T9300 2.5ghz 800mhz, 6mb l2 cache for the top model to a T5550 1.8ghz for the lower end model
    GPU: geforce 9300 w/ 256mb vram
    Memory: up to 4gb 667mhz
    HDD: up to 250gb 5400rpm
    Screen: 13" WXGA 1280x800
    Super multi-drive
Build in 1.3M webcam + fingerprint reader
    Wireless ABGN/ABG
    HDMI support
    weight: 1.95kg w/ 3 cell battery (~4.3lbs)

It looks exactly the same as the current 14" F8 series, but smaller, without the hotkeys on top and the webcam can't swivel. The palm rest also has a slightly different design too - F8 has horizontal line patterns; the F6Sg has a dotted pattern. This sounds like this could be my next upgrade from my W7S :D

Why not the W7Sg as an upgrade? :) Because it's not available?

The W7S looks like it'll still be available, but there doesn't seem to be a refresh.

3 cell battery? Aside from that the laptop looks nice, but I can't imagine that battery functioning much better than a UPS.

Well, it's the same with the 13" U3 series. They also come with a 3 cell battery.

The important thing is to have better options than 3 cell (like 6 or 9cell) available. Unlike the F8 for instance which only has the 6-cell and its terrible battery life.

I don't think they will (hopefully I'm wrong though), but looking a the current 13" notebooks, none of them offer a higher cell battery option.

This is interesting...I wonder what pricing will be like (compared to U6sg)?

The F6Sg series will most likely be priced cheaper than the U6Sg since F series are budget notebooks.

    Again, not correct :).

On quick checks, both 6 & 9 cell for the U3 and U6 are available at Excaliber, and BTOTech has the 6 cell for the U6 and 9 cell for the W7.

Probably expect it to be somewhere below $1200, still several hundred below the higher-quality U3 (in line with the price difference between the U6 and F9 12" models).

    I want my U3Sg refresh :)!

There will be :) But there'll still be the 512mb on board memory. The only thing that will change for the U3Sg is the penryn CPU, 9300mG GPU and 3G capability

Really? I just checked gentech and btotech but both didn't have 6 cell for U3. U6 is available, but that's a 12" notebook. Haven't checked excaliber though

I thought I had seen Asus' published spec sheet for the -sg model with 1GB RAM (link is down at the moment). Have you updated info from another source?

Source from May 2008 Asus catalog (but I guess these could all be subject to change)

Please read my post -- I didn't say BTO had the U3 6 cell; I had seen that Eddie only has the 6/9 cell for the U6 series, he isn't carrying the U3 batteries at all.

All in good spirits -- probably time for us to move on to something else....

Thx for the spec source; the RAM in the -sg isn't that critical to me anyway, I want the cpu upgrade.

hey emporiumboutique does asus ever give their resellers a hint what they will showcase at Computex, or is that where they show off prototypes for the first time?

Is a Non Disclosure Agreement involved? :rolleyes2:

Well, technically, the sg uses the same GM965 chipset so you could just upgrade the CPU yourself (with the consequence of voiding warranty)

You'll have to ask ken from gentech or eddie from btotech to get that information. My guess is probably depending on the relationship between the reseller and if they ask or not. But they're not going to receive a prototype before a showcase or anything like that.

Reason is, I'm trying to see when the Mobility Radeon 3750 / Puma Platform (AMD Griffin CPU's) first show up.

I don't know about the U6, but the W7Sg does have 1GB soldered so I assume it'll be the same for the U6 (i.e. increased from 512MB to 1GB)

This is confirmed? Because on the Asus catalog it still says 512mb of memory is fixed on the w7sg.

Hmm? Am I waiting for the W7Sg for nothing? Let me check...

Edit: the specs sheet on asus.com says I'm right:

    http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=24&l3=297&l4=0&model=2048&modelmenu=2

and so do google searches in countries where the W7Sg is already on sale, e.g.:

    http://www.google.nl/search?btnG=Google+Search&q=asus+w7sg+site:.fr&redir_esc=y

Edit #2: About the U6... actually it doesn't have any soldered RAM:
    http://www.asus.com.tw/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=23&l3=518&l4=33&model=2065&modelmenu=2

Edit #3: Also let's not forget this thread is about the F6Sg :)

Sorry EBE.. my mistake. The catalog only lists the W7S and no W7Sg. So I'm not sure if the W7Sg will still have the on board 512mb or not :p
