Nothing new about these notebooks...and the announced K50AB with 4860 isn't out in these either
-
Well the N61V is new. It has not hit Asus USA website yet. A couple of them are refreshes and the UL series with the SU7300 is also new.
Right now you can get the UL30-X2 with the SU3500 on Amazon -
I'm diggin' the UL30A. It's basically the same as the timeline 3810 with better a little battery life. I would be up for that. It has become my next candidate in consideration as a media/torrent box.
-
hmm.. I wish they'd bring out a new powerful thin and light (similar to N81)
-
-
Your n51Vn is on the website:

Noob here with a dumb question,
Is the UL20 available, or will it be, in the US?
Also, Newegg and Amazon both say the processor on the UL30 that is available now is the U3500. I see the Asus website shows four choices of processor available for the UL20.
Hmmm...
My 10" Averatec 1150 was stolen from my truck and I need a replacement for it, question is, how long can I hold out, waiting for the next better thing to come along?
Eddie at Geared2Play told me that because these are ultra low voltage processors, they perform like just a regular processor, so what's the big deal?
I hope I am not misquoting him here, I am not super tech-savvy, but that was the gist of what he said, I am pretty sure.
Anyway, the UL20 and UL30 both look really great to me.
I ordered an Acer 11.6" netbook from Walmart, the screen was defective though so I took it to the local store for a refund. I guess that gives me a second chance to make a wise choice. My impression is that Asus has much better quality components, and are better built. So yeah I've decided I don't mind spending the extra money. I do want ultraportable, I sure don't want to spend over $800. $650 would be OK, just don't know if I ought to wait for "better" versions of those models to come out.
Honestly, it is mostly just for surfing the net when I am away from home and don't have access. I have a Verizon wireless broadband account with unlimited access, so that's what I use if there's no Wi-fi around.
Any and all input is appreciated!
Thanks for listening!
PS. What's the difference between the UL30A-X2 at Amazon, and the UL30A-X1 at Newegg? My small noob brain cannot figure it out.
? ? ?
PSS. I have avoided Vista up to this point, I sure hope W7 turns out to be as good as everyone seems to think. I'd like to do the upgrade at first chance. -
I cannot see the difference between the UL30-X1 and UL30-X2 either. Amazon does not list the entire specs like Newegg.
Usually the difference in SKU with Asus is CPU (and HDD/MEM with it). My other guess would have been battery but the X1 takes an 8 cell.
Edit:
I forgot to answer the rest of your post. I do not think there is a UL20, but a U20.
I am assuming the 11" Acer you had was an Acer Timeline 1410T? Or was it a Netbook (Acer Aspire One)? The Timeline is a nice machine. In the $700 portable notebook line you could look at:
Lenovo U350
Acer Aspire Timeline 1410
Acer Aspire Timeline 3810 -
K50AB was canceled. At least in North America. -
Boring notebooks T_T Bring back a W3J replacement with the 4670!!!

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
I read a while back there was supposed to be a 12" like the U20, except with no optical drive. Where is it?

Having said that, the page you posted has some details about the Vn, but some details about the Vf. Some of the pictures are of the Vn, and others are of the Vf..... -

Dont try to figure out to much about there website you might hurt yourself
-
I just found it rather amusing. It's been the same way on many websites as far as the description and especially the pictures are concerned.
I did see a BIOS update on there with something about overclocking. I'm not sure what they mean though. I do know that I cannot see the CPU in Nvidia Tools... -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Cant your notebook overclock at the touch of a button? I guess thats only the W90 and the G51/71 i guess? Maybe they will make is possible the GT240 is a good card.
-
Maybe that's what they mean by:
Not much talk about that card anywhere... -
Huh. That N51Vn looks interesting. I might have to do some comparisons between that and the G51 I was looking at getting. >.>

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
The 240m doesn't look promising, honestly. At least the GDDR2 version. With the introduction of a GDDR3 card, (or GDDR5) it could prove to be a good budget card.
For raw gaming performance, though, the G51 (any model) will stomp the N51vn. -
I"m looking forward to a review of the UL50, would be nice to have a thin and light notebook with a fast cpu, should make watching youtube HD videos a breeze.
-
The N61 and the F50SF spec-wise seem similar so you could check that out too. The GPU isn't that strong tho and will play games okay but nothing mind-blowing. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Remember, people, Asus' marketing and naming scheme as it essentially exists now:
K = ultra-budget segment, cheap components and materials with entry-level performance
U = ultraportable, stylish, standard performance with mid-level components
F/N = budget to midrange segment, mid-level components and materials with medium performance.
G/W = gaming series, higher end components with better gaming performance etc.
All this wishing for high level components and performance within the lower market segments is foolish...
Asus keeps their model lines distinct for a reason so they don't overlap and affect each others' sales, they always have, and they have shown no intention thus far of chasing Alienware/Sager etc into the upper-end performance market. -
^ They seem to have forgotten their business series in this update :-/
-
I thought I had posted this yesterday, but anyway:
It looks like the difference in the X1 and X2 is the size of the hard drive, 320G vs 500G.
The camera is listed as just 0.3 Mega Pixel, is that reasonable enough? I notice the Acers all have 1.3MP cameras.
I was thinking about waiting for the dual core Asus UL to come out, now here it is with the A2. The price is a little high, I am thinking again about the Acer Timeline 13.3", hmmm... -
How is it that we can find so little information on these? Are we looking in the wrong places? Is the info only on the "deep web"?
I would think it would help Asus sell their laptops if they gave us a little help with the 411.
Anybody?
-
The UL30A-A1 looks nice. Some of the images that ASUS provides makes it look like it has a backlit keyboard but its not mentioned anywhere so I'm assuming it doesn't.
Can't find it here in Canada though, I need a replacement for my EEE 1000ha. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
WOW, i just noticed the UL. That looks amazing. Is this a business class notebook?
Those keys are the real deal. It's also 16:10 Definitely a shocker!
EDIT: LOL NM False alarm that is the U20 which i still shocking it is 16:10 -
Albert - I have no idea why this information is hard to find. I constantly find myself on google translation becuz it is usually on asian websites.
The pricing I get from distributors and that information is usually right before you start to see it appear on retailers sites. -
Looks like the UL30A is back on the ASUS website, specs and everything. Although the processors indicated don't exactly match up with what we have seen for sale on the internet the last few days.

Can anyone tell me about whether the 0.3MP camera is adequate? Seems like most laptops nowadays come with 1.3MP cams. -

I would like to see 1440x900 14" screens again with Nvidia video chips.

How do you compare this to the acer timeline? I liked the Acer timeline but mouse button too stiff.

http://news.softpedia.com/news/ASUS-Rolls-Out-New-CULV-Based-UL-Laptop-Series-121136.shtml
Sweet, silver UL8x
Also, they gave the prices in Poland (EU). Unfortunately I don't know if they're for Dual or Single Core CPU. Also, the prices probably include VAT (22%) so US ppl, You know how to do the math
Please note that I calculate on current, rather low USD price.
• UL50VG: 3499 PLN = 1235 USD
• UL80V: 3399 PLN = 1200USD
• UL30A: 2899 PLN = 1023USD
• UL20A: 2599 PLN = 917USD
--UPDATE--
I'm 99,5% sure those are prices for Dual Cores with VAT.
Few weeks ago I saw news about UL30A with C2D SU7300, GMA Intel X4500HD, VHP, 4GB RAM and price about 2999PLN (1058USD) with VAT. Now, USD price is lower so prices in PLN are also. -
were can I buy the Asus UL30-A2 , I believe the A2 is the one with core 2 duo Su9400 at 1.4GHZ----That one is the dream.
Do you guys know where to buy? Is it even out? I couldn't find much about this particular configuration. It is not for sale may be??? -

News states UL50VG which is GeForce G210M, Your link is UL50A with Intel. Add +22% to Your price and You got 950USD. Still 230USD difference, but the always rip us off in Europe.
UL30A +22% price difference is 77USD. Not a big difference + those are recommended prices, not the street ones.
Specs: http://www.telix.pl/images/200904/asus_ul_spec.pdf -
You are right about the UL50. My link is the AG while your listing is the VG but the UL30A is not $1000 though.
-
1023USD -22% VAT = 838USD Vs Yours 779USD, so ~60USD difference. Not big taking into account fact that those are recommended, retails prices, not (lower most of the time) street prices.
-
I just wish I could upgrade to 8 gigs with some of these laptops.

Why would You need so much with laptop ?
