Hello all, I've been thinking about purchasing either the Asus G51 with the i7 processor or the G72 with the quad core. I have just a few questions as I'm more familiar with macintosh computers, not the windows operating systems.

First off, when I purchase the system (whichever one it may be) will I need to do anything special after I open it and turn it on? Or can I just turn it on and start installing/playing games. I may sound like an idiot, but I'm not familiar with updating drivers or BIOS because those things aren't necessary on macintosh os.

That being said, is there anything I would likely need to prepare myself for? I also see alot of people talking about their problems with partitioning. I'm curious as to why? On the macintosh, the only reason to ever partition anything is if you're going to run linux or windows via "Bootcamp". Also, when doing so, you never have a problem assuming that you know what you're doing.

Also, I'm finding difficulty in choosing between the two computers. I personally like the look and screen size of the G72. What sets me off however is the inferior processor. Also, it seems that for some reason, through best buy you only have a one year manufacturers warranty.

The G51 is more... portable and powerful (correct me if I'm mistaken). I only find that the... artwork behind the monitor is frankly, well... ugly. I do however like that through newegg.com I will have a two year warranty through the manufacturer (why are they not both two year?)

Any commentaries and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I just purchased a G51J (from gentechpc), and yes, you will be able to use it out of the box. I have owned macs and pcs for the last decade and have never had to tweak my BIOS. Most of the G51 owners in this forum delve into more advanced administration activities as their skill levels allow, but it is not required.

As far as updating drivers, most of the time, the drivers will be found and automatically installed. If they are not, downloading and installing drivers is very easy and just takes a few clicks. It's not really that techie.

I agree that the artwork is ugly. I am ordering a skin from schtickers.com. If you order from xoticpc.com, they have an option to make the skin and apply it for you.

Also, unless I am mistaken, the G51 at the big blue box store is an older/lower spec then what is available from NewEgg/Xotic/Gentech.
