Hello all, I recently purchased a new Asus K53E-BBR4 with 2430m i5, 4 ram and 500 HD. I got this at what I consider a good price and seems to run great but there is one thing that concerns me a bit. When I put my ear up close to the front of the machine I can hear a subtle scratchy static type noise along with some subtle and random clicks or ticks. Mind you I do have to put my head up to the machine to hear this, is this normal hard drive noise or a warning that I may have gotten a flaky HD. Thanks.

It is very hard to diagnose a hdd issue remotely from a bunch of words. Back up your drive regularly and move on. If it fails you will RMA it.

Sounds like a slightly noisy, but normal drive operation to me. My seagate drives do that, my hitachi does not.
