Updated Asus Ultrabooks to get Full HD Display, Spec Updates says Report Ultrabook News and the Ultrabook Database

New UX21 and UX31 coming (tentatively) in May 2012.

    ^ Read about it there.

    Looks like it'll have:

Full HD 1080p Display on BOTH 11.6" and 13.3" Models
Backlit Keyboard (YAY! Hopefully it'll be easier to use too)
New Hard Drives (?) No more SanDisk? :D
    Cheaper Pricing

The original source is not in English so ... can't confirm the translations are accurate.

Here's hoping there is a better track pad too.

More details to be released of course ....

1080p on an 11.6 and 13.3 inch? Highly doubt that because that high of a resolution on such a small screen will make everything too small and hard to see.
At max, it will be 1600x900.

I agree that on a 11.6" screen it will be too much.

But on the 13.3" I think it could work. The Sony Z has one of the best displays and is full HD.

I hope Asus makes the screen Matte (or at least an option with it...)

Hopefully they'll upgrade the wireless as well.

I actually cancelled my order of the ux31 due to all the problems.

With the backlit keyboard, I'm pretty much sold on the new UX31!

I hope they'll bring in new colors as well. I don't really dig the girly colors they have available.

On the other hand, a matte IPS display would be perfect, but I wished Asus would increase the screen size as well. 1080p on a 13.3" will have you zooming into everything. I would like to see the US market conform to the 14" standard in Asia.

Wouldn't that res on an 11.6in machine technically make it a "retina" display? I have seen that res on the 13.1in Vaio Z line before and in my limited use seemed alright, and might be even a little better on a slightly larger 13.3in display. On the other hand on a 11.6in display it could be a hard to work with.

Pending how good battery life is and how accurate the screen is I may go for either 11.6in UX31 with the IPS display or one of the UX32 variants witht he IPS display.

190 ppi. Not close enough to Retina display specs (264ppi for the iPad3 and 326ppi for iPhone 4). Anything in the ballpark of 286ppi can be considered Retina-like. But, then again you aren't putting the screen 6 inches away from your eyes.

I wish they offered 8GB RAM, but the spec that's most interesting to me is the 500GB HDD + 24GB SSD Cache UX32A with the i5, 4GB RAM, and the 1080p matte display.

"Retina" isn't just about PPI, it also takes distance into consideration. On an 11.6" screen it would certainly be above the threshold Apple uses.

Seriously, 1080p is overkill for such a small display.
1600x900 resolution is better - the only thing that they should have done is make it an IPS edge-to-edge display with a matte finish.

The dedicated graphics seems nice, but it is only worth the upgrade if it is considerably better than integrated graphics.

Everything else seems okay, except the keyboard which could be better by adding more cushion to the keys.

Also, if they included an 256GB SSD for a slightly higher price, this would be a really good ultrabook contender.

How would you do edge to edge MATTE glass? Out of curiosity? edge to edge displays are super super glossy.
