    Hey guys,

I'm really interested in the W3V. When I saw the $200 mail-in rebate offer that ended on July 15, I was kicking myself for not having bought the laptop sooner. I really don't want to spend the $1850 pricetag for this thing, but it's just so damn cool! Cant..resist...

Anyway, I was browsing around the net and I found this: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=51&threadid=1635794&enterthread=y
Somebody recommends geared2play, which looks a little sketchy, but it's an Asus authorized dealer, so how bad could it be? So I click the link they have there and I see the "New $200 Rebate Offer" thing at the top of Asus Ensemble list. I click the link and it takes me here: http://nbwarranty.asus.com/rebate/
Now if you read the dates on there carefully, you'll notice that it says July 20th-July 30th at the top, but it has the dates July 1st-July 15th at the bottom (in the fine print). Those older dates were the dates of the last version of this rebate.

So is it possible that Asus screwed up and forgot to edit the fine print...is this really a legitimate rebate? It's on their website, so I'd like to think so.

I might call some time in the next day or two, but if you guys know anything, please share. If I can get the W3V for $1650, that would be great.

It's funny..I started looking at ~$1100 laptops from HP, Compaq, Sony, Toshiba, etc. Then I saw the W3V and read the reviews. Oh man....what a sick machine....gotta have it.

    Thanks.
    -Brian

geared2play seems to receive alot of mention. I talked to them before, the owner is nice, called me up for a couple days to give me updates on the Z70V status. Some of the Asus reviews here are from people who bought from G2P. Other good resellers with high reseller ratings include, Portable One (they also sell Asus, although they are usually associated with Fujitsu), ProPortable (he posts here often and even gives help to those who didn't buy from them), Startech, and Discountlaptops.

The only other equivelent to the W3V in the US at the moment, is the Chembook 2030 (Compal EFL 30).. its also sold by Gigabyte under a different name. it uses the Nvidia equivelent of the x600.. it's 200-300 cheaper for a similar build but you give up DDR2 for DDR1 and glossy screen for matte screen.

    BigDu,
I bought my W3V from Proportable had no problems at all. I have had it on the road for almost a month and a half.

I bought my Z70V from Geared2Play and they've been wonderful. If you shoot out an email you tend to get a response within an hour or two. I've exchanged at least a couple dozen emails in the process, both before and after sale.

This I believe goes for all the top resellers mentioned on this board. One of nice things about going the Asus route is dealing with these smaller outfits that give a very personal experience.

I agree a 100%. I got mine from Geared2play also. Boy, he really knows his stuff and extremely helpful, too. I originally went with them because of the price, but then the service & support was an added bonus.

I'll tell you what, as Asus' premier partner - they sure kept this rebate under wraps. They never mentioned it until we brought it to their attention and they certainly didn't say it was extended. I can't confirm or deny this rebate has been extended..... I'm going to check into it though.

I got my W3V from geared2play. The only thing I would say is sketchy about Eddie is his spelling on these forums :p But seriously, he's very helpful and knowledgable.

On the bottom of the page linked above it still says the old dates though, i.e. that you need a sales receipt dated July 1st-15th.

They say in the old country if you hicup while not eating someone is talking about you. My diaphragm is about to explode here!
Now about the rebate. Someone brought this to my attention today and it seems true they did extend it. It was real nice of them to let the dealers know. The fine print on the bottom seems sketchy though. Why were they keeping it such a big secret? Uniballer ye my spelling is a little off. I type in excess of 30 pages a day and i make tons of mistakes. There was a harvrad stdy that sayd even if you make lats of spleling reors peeplo still get the piont ass logn as teh gamrar is ok. :)

Talked to Asus and they did confirm they extended the rebate until the end of the month. I can confirm it and I've got the email which states it incase anyone runs into a problem. They just didn't change the artwork for some reason.

By the same token i guess their policy of combining 3rd year extened warranty with the rebate is good too right?

Yeah, it is and it was the whole length of this promo ...... they just neglected to mention this to anyone.

Regardless they finally said we could all mention this on our sites..... so if you need any further information, it's all here:

Wow. Good thing I asked you guys about this. Oh man, Asus even changed their rebate thingy. I feel special. Haha, j/k.

Anyway, now I've got a decision to make. Do I go for the Z63A configured for around $1550 with the options I want. OR go for the W3V from G2P, get an extra 512MB ram, and with $200 off, get the whole thing for $1699?

So basically $150-$200 more for the graphics card, bluetooth, and DVD burner. Let's see...I don't play games on the computer much at all, the bluetooth is cool but not critical, and I can just buy a $50 DVD burner for my desktop (which I'll be keeping) and settle for the DVD/CDRW combo. While the W3V is VERY tempting, I think it's probably better to save the $150 at this point.

Anybody agree with me? Thanks for the help, guys.

    -Brian

EDIT: Wait a minute, I just realized, the W3V also comes with the 3 year warranty.... Interesting...

Why do you get $200 rebate? Have you ever wondered yourself in a moment? Good rebate, but.... watch out for light leakage, sparkle, and .... heat!!! Only when you experience it, you will know.
