Ok here is the deal, I am a NOOB to the max but am looking for people who have been doin this awhile to help me get up to speed.

I just purchased a C90S from Velocity Micro and am very new to the modding/gaming computer world and would like to learn as much as possible and build some notes and knowledge on my new purchase.

What I would like to do:

1 - Need to know the best driver for the 8600 GT ddr2 graphics card so i can get the best performance while overclocking. And what is needed to get this to work correctly

2 - Would like to upgrade the memory to 3 GB but dont know the first thing about what bios's are and what need to happen for this upgrade to work right.

3 - Do I need to upgrade to a 120 Watt power Supply?

4 - Anything big I should know with this config as to work more Efficiantly -

If you get ram that is compatible with the system, then the BIOS will recognize it automatically, and you won't have to do anything other than properly install it.

You may want to consider having one custom built from one of these excellent reseller's.

I configured a nice setup with 3 GB of ram at BtoTech for $1422.00.

Yah I would but I already purchased the Laptop, so your saying if I put in 2Gb + 1GB that it will just recognize it or will i have to download somthing?

I suggest returning the notebook and buying from one of the reseller's I listed. That way you can get it the way you want it, and save a few bucks at the same time.

As for the ram, yeah, if it's compatible with your notebook, all you have to do is install it, no software or configuration is necessary.

Also, since it's the c90s, it's VERY picky about the type of RAM it uses. The one most people have success with is the SuperTalent ram, they usually put in 2gb + 1gb modules.

you should probably also check the owner's lounge, and the memory success report thread. There are a few issues/tricks to keep in mind about this laptop (I do not know them but they are certainly around, owner's lounge is a good place to start).

I will make sure to do that! Thanks. Do any of you guys know which driver gives best performance with the 8600 GT 512 at this point in time. Old 167 vs new 169?

its kind of funny how a top rated vendor like vm does not support the products after warranty expired. we make lots of money on their customer who now turn to us for service on their legacy asus z71 and others.

Well we will see, they are trying to fix a harddrive problem at the moment, they have been good so far. Eddie do you guys do upgrades? I may try to do this 3GB upgrade at some point, just want to limit probems. Wish i would have found this site before i got past my 30 days.

Not usually. Most people just buy the ram wherever and put it in them selves

Aeneon, Patriot and Transcend has no problem with C90S, just avoid brand names like Kingston and Corsair because you never know what IC they gonna use on each batch.

Thanks Ken, and hey i do not mean to bug but do you have a link for the specific memory and are there any two I should be pairing, I want to give myself the best chance of not having problems by asking the experts.

Also I am just going to throw this out there, I am a little interested if anyone else has run into this problem. About a month ago my lcd screen would sometimes not turn on but the system would boot, sometimes it would take a couple restarts before it actually came on. Sometimes even after it started working if you had to restart for something even a couple minutes later it wouldnt work again.

Any ideas? Currently VM is trying to fix this, plus after one of there episodes the computer stopped recognizing the hard drive. I miss my C90
