For people running on 11.7.8.5 or an acer s7 driver, is the atk package from asus necessary? I keep getting the control panel for the driver crashing on boot.
-
Well it seems that the atk package and the samsung driver hate each other, because uninstalling the atk make the samsung driver work perfectly. How would one control the backlight then? Also, I noticed there was a file called TouchpadEnableDisable.exe included with the driver. It may be possible to link that to the keymap of the function key.

When can we have a stable version of elan tech driver ?
The charm bar which appears when you drag at left, it's sad, very sad. Please Asus make something...... -
Elantech touchpads: When ti comes to all the various laptop manf and versions of them are they all using the same basic Elantech touchpad hardware? Or do you think there are actual different touchpads and various different drivers? I see mention of the Acer drivers as they see to be the most upto date. People have been getting them from the Acer website. I decided to do a search on Softpedia as they carry most all driver downloads. Doing a search for Elantech if you look for windows 8 I have found driver versions as high as 11.10.3.4 It was list for the Clevo W650EH Laptop. I am wondering if these are all the same driver package but with more updates added to them each time to fix various issues the latest may be what is needed.
Anyways just thought I would throw that out there as a quicker place to find the latest driver packages. Here is the link: Searching for: elantech - Softpedia The Clevo is about half way down the page date April 19 which is you include the version number I think would make it the newest version? -
Hi everyone,
Been reading this thread and found it very helpful, so thank you to the contributors. This link may also be of interest to some here:
Asus UX31E – setting up the Elantech touchpad driver for Windows 8 | wj32
I have uninstalled the Asus Smart Gesture software and installed the Elantech software successfully, but have run into new issues altogether unfortunately.
My old problem was an oversensitive inertia in the scroll, and a lack of a three finger click as middle click, and mainly the fact that any two finger or three finger functions were frequently disabled after the laptop woke up from sleep.
With the new 11.7.8.5 Elan / Elantech drivers I now have more customisation options and the three finger click works well, but:
- When I start up my computer it says "ElanTPCFG.exe has stopped working", although my customisations still work. I don't want this popping up every time, however. Maybe my laptop is not fully compatible with the driver?
- After I have finished scrolling with two fingers, there is an annoying delay before I can then move the mouse pointer with a single finger, unless I take all my fingers off and then put it back down again, which I did not have to do with the Smart Gesture software. I have spent hours tweaking the registry but cannot find an option to fix this, unfortunately.
- I get the sense there is some sort of acceleration or negative acceleration effect going on. It doesn't feel right and the options .exe files do not show all the options unfortunately, so when looking in the registry I have to decode and guess what to change.
Can anyone else comment on this?
Thanks. -
I just installed the Smart Gesture first and without uninstalling it; I installed ELAN touchpad 11.7.8.5.
Tweaked some settings in touchpad (Control Panel) for palm detection etc.
No errors and everything works good. With the exception of FN+F9. -
Thanks, when I installed the Elan driver over the Smart Gesture, my sensitivity went right down so I decided to uninstall first. I'll try it your way again.
Edit: Tried it, and it removed the ElanTPCFG.exe error, but there are other issues:
- Still have the odd delay after scrolling to moving pointer
- Asus Smart Gesture had this useful function that meant wherever your pointer was, that is what would scroll when you used two fingers, whereas now I have to click on the new field, then scroll, or the field I was originally looking at will scroll instead. Hope that makes sense.
- Asus Smart Gesture allowed three fingers swipe down to open multi-tasking window, whereas now it is like alt-tab. A minor issue but irksome all the same.
As it stands I would like to find out how to configure this Elantech driver further, and go back to the Asus Smart Gesture in the meantime and have to put up with my computer needing a restart now and again to enable the two+ finger functions. -
Yea, I think I have just gotten used to the ELAN stuff that I don't notice those scrolling issues. Probably gonna notice it more now and get annoyed at it.
I agree with you on the three finger swipe etc. Should be possible to configure this to whatever command you want? I'm clueless on how to do it manually without a software like the ELAN "touchpad" in control panel.
Also, is it possible to customize FN+F9 to a standalone touchpad on/off .exe file?
Here are my settings fwiw:

guys i have tried both asus smart gesture and elantech new driver. Smart gesture just works better in my opinion, as im running a 15" laptop, im not sure why the elantech pointer is slow and even my large touchpad can't move the cursor from one end to the other covering the whole screen, smart gesture is so much responsive and fast. in addition, there are 3 finger gesture that allow multitasking and back to desktop in asus smart gesture. elantech 4 finger gesture return back to desktop is just not as responsive compared to using 3 finger.
if you have problem using the asus smart gesture, remember to update to the latest driver/version that is available for your laptop, i got mine and it works like a charm. -

Wow, there is so much confusing nomenclature and ambivalent usage of Asus and Elan drivers here. When you refer to Asus Smart Gesture drivers, what are you referring to? The latest ones for your specific laptop? There is a list of drivers for the "generic" touchpad on Asus's site, which seem to be referred to as the "Elan" drivers here by many, I think. But, even these, at least the latest two in the series, are indeed repackaged Asus Smart Gesture drivers, so there is no real distinction. You can even see that the Asus UI EXE is included in the "Elan" driver versions. Some are reporting on their experiences comparing the Asus with the Elan drivers. Not only are there too many to mention of each, but is there really a distinction that can be made between the two? Where in the world are the vanilla Elan drivers that some are talking about here? Now, it could very well be that if you go back to a certain version of within the list of Asus Elan generic drivers, the Smart Gesture UI is indeed excluded, but that is not the case with the latest two versions, at least.

This might be a stupid question but for some reason I cannot get the Asus Smart Gesture application uninstalled. It seems like I have both drivers installed and want to uninstall them and start over.
Can someone please let me know how to uninstall the Asus Smart Gesture software on Windows 7. -
C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ASUS Smart Gesture or C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ASUS Smart Gesture\win7 should have "uninstall_all.bat"
If for some reason there is no Asus Smart Gesture in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features -
Could anyone upload Elantech touch pad driver v11.7.8.5?
All sources are offline.
Thx -
-
...See below...
Sorry, I can't upload a 40MB file here. Also, I'm on a slow connection, so I can't upload it anywhere else.
Normally, you'd be able to get it from ELANTECH Drivers, but they're upgrading their servers or something, so nothing is accessible at the moment. Perhaps in a couple of days.
EDIT:
-----> OK, I managed to upload it here: https://app.box.com/s/pqlry3xlrdoj8mudl0wu <-----
By the way, not sure, but I suspect that 11.7.13.2 is from the same source as 11.7.8.5

I'm using windows 8 64 bit on my ASUS UX31A. Which Elantech drivers would I be able to use? Or are all drivers mentioned above available for windows 8 64 bit as well?
Thanks in advance! -
By reading and investigating both here and there, I have finally found a satisfactory setup on my Asus UX31E.
It involves Elantech Touchpad driver 11.6.9.001 from Acer and latest ATK Package from Asus.
It also involves getting rid of Smart Gesture, Virtual Touch and ETDware.
Acer drivere can be found here (search for Acer Aspire S7-191 Windows 8 64 bit):
Acer | Download
Asus drivers can be found here:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Touchpad
Safe method for upgrading TP drivers (reboot as suggested along the way):
1.Deinstall ATK package, Smart Gesture, Virtual Touch and ETDware
2.Install Elantech Touchpad drivere (11.6.9.001)
3.Install latest ATK Package
This gave me a very good respons but Fn+F9 did not work anymore. Luckily, I don't miss it, since the touchpad can be configured to deactivate itself during writing, and resume operation after xx seconds, very nice
Now my notebook functions in the way it should have when leaving the factory. -
Thanks a lot for posting this. Updating to Windows 8.1 screwed up my touchpad settings and this guide did the trick. The touchpad works much better now and those drivers have way more settings available to adjust than the ASUS smart gesture ones.

Any chance for a re-up? Would make me mucho happy!
Btw - is this not suitable for Windows 7 (which is what I run)? -

Thanks for posting the 11.7.8.5 drivers. I've installed them on my Asus UX31LA, and the scrolling is significantly better.
-
When I unstalled the Smart Gesture program and rebooted a common DLL file was also removed, so I had to do a search to get it back. It was being used by the Spendid program. -

Each version changes something differently with another version even though they are both coming from Elantech -
11.13.4.4 VS 11.7.8.5
I've been using the 11.13.4.4 on my GS 60 GTX870m.
It seems as smooth as the 11.7.8.5.
But I wonder which version is best. -

If you use it long enough perhaps you will see the difference. -
Hi everybody! Long time lurker here. I wanted to share a few of my experiences with taming this horrid elantech touchpad because it's the link to this thread with a google search that fixed my touchpad, and I want to thank the one who figured out that the samsung driver worked. Isn't this elantech-touchpad-fix-driver/hardware-situation a mess! We all have to guess and see what works. Crazy. I have an Acer AO756-2840 with the same touchpad that everyone here has apparently because the Samsung 11.7.8.5 driver fixed it. Worked great. That is, when I was running 32 bit windows 7. I later upgraded my ram and installed Windows 7 64 bit. The 11.7.8.5 driver acted flaky and the cursor jumped around sometimes no matter how I adjusted the settings. I was about to downgrade my ram and reinstall 32 bit windows 7 just so my touchpad would work again with the Samsung driver but on a hunch I tried various drivers of the more expensive laptops since I figured they must be at least usable. and I found one that fixed it. The MSI CX70 2OD Elantech Touchpad Driver 11.13.2.4 64-bit. It uses the old style interface as opposed to the newer interface on the samsung driver and is solid as a rock so far after a few days of restarting, sleeping and resuming a lot, etc. I'm posting this with the netbook I'm talking about, even moving the cursor and not moving text accidentally! Give it a shot. I hope it helps others. Also, I never tried the MSI driver on 32 bit Windows 7, so if anyone could do that for me (and the community) it would be appreciated. Please let us know of you're experiences with this driver. Also google "Drag Drop Interceptor" and "windragsense" to fix accidental moves just in case. I use them both. Anyway, here's the link to the MSI 11.13.2.4 x64 driver Download MSI CX70 2OD Elantech Touchpad Driver 11.13.2.4 64-bit for Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8 64 bit - Softpedia

So I have this horrible touchpad in my NEC Lavie Z. I used to have Synaptics which is actually worse in many ways. This pad is workable except that the 2 finger right click tap is so inconsistent as to unusable. The icon shows that it has registered a two finger tap - then why doesn't the right click menu pop-up? How hard is it for that to happen.
Now when set up for two finger click or the default click the lower right corner it works consistently. Is there some setting that is preventing the driver from acting on the two finger tap? I have looked into the registry settings and have gotten some results but it seems some "smart" feature may be interfering with this. Also I cannot get mouse inertia to work (not really a huge issue).
I cannot understand how MS thinks it can compete when it doesn't certify the touchpad software from its partners. The touchpad is critical to the feel of the OS and they really need to take control of that situation. They have mastered the touchscreen feel but leave the touchpad to fend for itself. In no way can a MS come even close to a Mac touchpad. Even the bootcamp functionality of the Mac touchpad in Windows is unparalleled by the lazy suppliers of Windows touchpads. What is wrong with these people?
New Elantech and Asus Smart Gesture drivers, how are they?
