There is a shift in the Ensemble line pricing that is going into effect. Instead of bumping the W3 / V6 and others up to the next speed cpu, the prices are just going to fall. This is most likely in response to greater heat and lower battery life when switching from a 1.86 to a 2.0 (as such in the W3 and V6)..... so for now there isn't going to be any such update, rather just a drop in drop.

Also notice the W1 dropped a TON and the W2 which isn't even out yet will debut at $100 under what Asus initially told us and posted on their site.... $2,599 for all that is the W2v......

These prices are based on shipments that are ordered and leave Asus on 8/22. All of the pricing is below any dealers cost prior to the drop and there is absolutely no way to price match items even sold even only last week. This price drop was news to us all and yet at the same time we all antcipated having new models with slightly faster cpus by the end of the first week of September, so really some sort of change shouldn't be a surprise to most of you. I can understand some people might be a little upset, but you're going to have to take that anger out on Asus because they're the ones responsible for the drop (for all the good and bad it brings) and they're the ones tightening our margins... For us, all something like this means (when the new sale price is well under our cost, it just reminds us that Asus is making enough on these that they can drop the price.)

I live in Sweden and I'm about to buy a W3V. Do you know if this pricedrop is applicable to other places then US or porhaps even worldwide?

I would be very greatful if you found this out for me! Thanks!

These are country specific but have a lot to do with the processor price drop from last month..... Instead of bringing in new units at the same price with say the next faster cpu in them, they brought in units with the same cpu at a lower cost. So you should see a change shortly as well.

so, asus lowers their price, and you have to lose money on units because of it? obviously for the consumer the price drop is great, but this, along with the z70va fiasco definitely makes you wonder WTF about asus' management.

Lets not get into that now....... those rebates Asus offers are fine for us as they take care of stuff on the backend.... but yes, this...... this isn't great. Most Asus dealers don't carry stock and for good reason. We do and we have to try to judge these things so we don't get caught with our pants down. We have smaller orders that arrive 2-3 times a week, but for instance that doesn't help an order placed on Thursday or Friday that arrived today or tomorrow.

..... steve, just be glad this W2 is costing you less than you planned on.. :)

yeh, it's hard not to be grateful for the surprise drop. made sticking with the W2 an easier decision.
