So I just got my new G1 today and it seems to be great. The only thing is that the battery seems to not be lasting very long, I think I will download one of the programs that I saw talked about on here that will tell you the wear on the battery. But back to the topic, there is over a gig of memory being used just sitting there so I am thinking about reformatting. My question is if I reformat will I lose important applications? Or is everything that is loaded now on the driver CDs?

    Thanks a lot

Also, if I reformat can I not use the recovery disks that it came with?

You just got your laptop today, so here's what you do, if you have used it or installed anything important then back it up, otherwise don't worry about it and format.

Here's a link to a Guide EBE wrote it explains everything.

And yes the Driver CD is all you need.

As much as I like my new laptop, I was a bit appalled at the state my machine came in when I first booted it up. Tons and tons of icons in my system tray, an error/warning prompt generated by my thumb reader, icons on my desktop, and 400+ MB of page file being used. Not to mention that my HD was split into two 60GB FAT32 partitions. I shut down and immediately blew the machine out the water and started fresh. :p

All that crud, no wonder Windows gets a bad rap. :p

If you're a picky user concerned with how your machine performs (which is most of us, actually), it's a good idea to reformat and start fresh. Although Asus machines don't come with a huge amount of 'bloatware', there still is a whole lot of stuff you probably won't need. I'm sure about half of the users who buy Asus notebooks will probably reformat them within the first week or month... not because they're bloated by default, but because people who actually buy Asus notebooks are more experienced computer users.
