I know alot of people are in the same boat as me. Here is some info that Ken at gentec gave me

G71g will be ship on Nov. 14th and that's confirmed.
G50Vt-A1 will be sometime next week.

They are actually not the same, G71g uses Intel Desktop chipset P45 and G50Vt uses PM45 chipset.
The P45 can support more memory sockets and PM45 can support only 2 sockets.

    G71G uses DDR3 1333.
    G50Vt uses DDR2 800.

    G50Vt: 14.6"*10.3"*1.3"-1.6", 6.5lbs
    G71G: 16"*11.6"*1.8", 8.5 lbs

Hope this will help you all out.

I really like the new G50Vt...it's too bad Asus insists on making gigantic 15.4" notebooks.

They should not be too much off than the standard picture galleries we used for G50 and G71. What would you like to know exactly?

Well that new Best Buy model is a silver and black trim. I was hoping that the new G50 and G71 would also be silver and black, instead of the orange/red and black.

Sweet that more with in my price range. now get rid of the blu ray and Im good. So prices look to be about 100 more. Not bad. that will still leave me room to get the N10.

I think in another posting he showed 1699 and 1899. I thinking the 1699 is for the A1 and the 1899 is the A2 as shown above.

    edit
    MSRP: $1699 and $1899 (G50Vt)

that what he had posted in another thread

well everything is upgraded. Dual Hard drives, You get a nice bag with the system, upgraded cpu. Its will still be the best bang for the price out right now.

I wonder if we will get the head phones with laptop as Asus shows that the G50 comes with some but I do not see that anyone got them in any of the reviews.

cpu is bottle necked by GPU....i dbout theres much of a performance diff, its all about the extra drive (which you can put i the low end) and the better screen, which may be the selling point for me.

That's kind of silly...the G50Vt is practically the same price as the G50V? There's a nice big middle finger to the early G50V owners.

Not really, I find it unusual that basically the same exact notebook is being rereleased with a much better GPU by the same exact company barely 2 months after the original. If this notebook wasn't made by Asus or if it was released later, then yeah of course - that's how technology goes.

They knew all the upcoming college students would need computers before school starts. They made their money off them (me), and now they can release something more dominating in the market. I can't say I didn't expect it but it still pisses me off, especially because I know that it wasn't heat that kept them from putting a better card in my computer (assuming the chassis is the same).

Yeah i bought mine 5 days ago.. G50V A1... I am really leaning towards 8800GS... since 9700GT is not even OCable. I think I am going to take 15% restocking hit and wait for the new G50Vt-A1...

What I would like to know is if the mobo has the same revision as the current G50V.

    Woohoo!!

The G50s and G71 are within my price range.
Finally a gaming laptop with a worldwide warranty.
Now i'm torn between the G71G-A1 or the G50Vt-A1.
One question do you guys think that the Blu-ray reader will be necessary in 4 years?

I highly doubt it. Blu-ray may become more popular within the next 2 years but it will never experience the success of DVDs. At this point, it's just an expensive luxury that will likely fade as downloadable contect predominates.

Check out the new N50 ($999~$1599) or L50 ($1399~1899). And if you don't need the higher end graphics card, N50 w/ NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT 1GB is definitely a good buy.

    Nothing for U6 at the moment, but there's going to be a sub-$1000 12.1" called "N20A". (T5800 , 4GB , 250GB HDD, X4500 on WXGA LED)

ah...I'm seeing U6V price reductions around the net....that usually signals to me 'something' is in the works...F8VA-C1 also :D That's why I asked.

    EDIT: ah, gimme a black G50VT anyway.... :D :D

You are right about the price reductions on current models, some are phasing out as you can see, another reason is because October has been fairly slow even for the bigger guys I heard. Eee PC has definietely outshined branded ASUS notebooks for the time being.

I am going to as soon as I can get a confirmation on the color. I really don't want an orange laptop.
