So, hi, I'm new here. I just purchased a G50Vt-X5 from Best Buy. I had to exchange the unit THREE times before I got one that was "optimal".
I was wondering if any of you have noticed that in some of the units, the video/display is just awful looking. By awful, I mean washed out colors, white/light bleeding through the black, ununiform brightness/contrast. Using Digital vibrance is a MUST to make the display look anything close to "good". Seriously, is it the display or GPU that causes this? (And yes, I definately used the NVidia driver settings to try to compensate for the graphics). My current unit was by FAR better than the others in overall video (deep blacks/bright whites and colors). What do you guys think about this? What gives? I KNOW I can't be alone here in noticing this, yet I see no other threads on the subject.

Don't you think you're just being picky?

Basically, the differences are night and day. I'm very surprised nobody else here has posted about it.

The display has been called subpar for a gaming note book. Its not any worse then the 400-500 dollar laptops I used to own and work on.
Check out my review of the G50 and the pics of the screen in comparison with yours. However Motok has found his screen was a Chi Mei and not the AU Optronics I have so things can vary there.
The 1680x1050 model screen is a much better sceen but over all I never fnd myself outside of the sweet spot.
Anyways the X5 is the same base hardware (except cpu) as the other G50's. You get what you pay for the screen, bluetooth, cpu and excellent warranty make the X6 worth its 1300 and the B1 worth is 1600. -
I think what I was really trying to point out here is that the quality of display/video actually does vary (in my case, greatly) between units. I would have normally never noticed this. I was wondering if anybody else (who had/has exchanged their X5) had noticed such a large discrepancy. Had I not had two dead pixels on my last one, and exchanged it, I'd of never known how good this display can actually be. 100% of my digital vibrance is usable on this without it getting ridiculous (color saturation looks amazing). Normally, I have found anything above 50% to be unusable. Is this a software or hardware driven feature? I've become really curious about this. Does the actual LCD quality determine how deep the blacks are and how rich the colors look?
