I'm sorry for you G51 owners lol.

they did the same thing to g50v owners(they took a night stick and just shoved it in lol) but at least here it will not be clearly outmatched like the 9700m gt vs the 9800m gs.
hmm. well maybe us as g5x series owners should wait and catch a couple of those gts cards and swap if the heat sinks fit. which knowing asus they will. they are just to lazy to change the cooling.
well this solves the heating issue. keep ur fingers crossed. -
Ahaha, yeah, i though this was my thread and was like, ?

-
The lower clocked GTS 250m produces a fair bit less heat than the even underclocked GTX260m
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
At the cost of lessened performance. It looks comparable to a 9800m GT if it uses GDDR5, because the 128 bus will kill DDR3.
And wait a second, is notebookcheck for real? 1600 MHz for the memory clock? -
check this out forge

up 2000mhz memory -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Oh, dear lord. With such a high memory clock, I hope the heating will be comparable. RAM gives off mad heat.
-
yes but clock for clock gddr5 is supposed to run cooler. idk if it will be true we will find out soon.
-
See the other thread and read Ken Lee's post.
-
This won't have a GTS 250M I'm pretty sure guys. At least a GTS 260M or probably the same GTX 260M. But we don't know till info comes out.
-
The GTS 260M would be weaker than the GTX 260M due to having only 96 shaders as opposed to the GTX's 112, while having similar clock speeds. At least the power consumption has been halved...
-
Yeah it seems really the sweet spot will be the GT 300s series. Too bad they aren't coming out just yet. But I like it cuz I get to keep one of the fastest gpus
-
I don't know, the Geforce GTS 250M with GDDR5 doesn't seem all that bad to me, I mean 96 shaders isn't that much lower than 112 on the GTX 260M. Plus it's a newer architecture than the GTX 260M while supprting Directx 10.1, so maybe it'll benifit more from DirectX 11 when Windows 7 releases. At the moment I'm split over the G71Gx and the new G51/G71J series, but at least I sold my G50Vt at a good price and a good time to start shopping again.
Edit: It seems the Geforce GTS 250M is an underclocked Geforce GTS 260M, so depending on whether ASUS has improved the G51/G71 series cooling then it should be pretty straightforward to BIOS flash it to the GTS 260M for the higher clocks. -
Yeah the GTS 250M and 260M look promising. I mean a little less performance than the GTX260M (let's say some hypothetical numbers like 10%/15%) with as much as less than half the power consumption (if I remember correctly) is a pretty sweet deal.
-
Lower performance is never a good deal. A better idea would be to add a second fan and heatsink and up the clocks on the existing 260m gtx for the revised laptops. This is a step back no matter how you may try to rationalize it. A 128 bit bus, cut down shaders and reduced clocks..garbage. Fortunately, it seems this is NOT the case since a reliable source has confirmed that the new G51J and G60 will have a GTX 260m and not the gimped GTS 250m.

I guess I found my G50Vt replacement. -

I'm new to this site, btw.
I just ordered the g51vx-a1 and I'm gonna cancel it since the i7 mobile processors just came out. I'm curious, when do you think the g51j will be out in the US market? I don't know whether to get the Sager NP8690 or wait for the Asus G51J. I wish we could get more info from Asus on a release date. -
Go for the NP8690, it's got much better cooling.
-

Stop scaring away the potential G51 owners, you dirty scrub.

I'm very aware of the cooling system on the Sager as opposed to the heating concerns with the G51. I originally chose the G51 over the NP8662 because I figured someone will figure out a way to keep the temps down. I've read threads regarding copper heatsink mods. I'm not too worried about the cooling system. I'm just concerned about Asus's release date with the G51J. They're a bit behind on the i7 notebook. I don't want to wait too long. I am very tempted on the NP 6890 because of the unknown release date of the G51J. Therefore, I am stuck in a rut.
-
Doesn't the NP8662 have pretty loud fans though?
-
I'm a little bit confused about the G60J and G51J. Are they basically the same except one is 0.4" shorter? I wouldn't really consider that much more "compact." Maybe some people will still decide based on the size, but it seems like more of a question of which has a better resolution. >.>

Thanks im torn between the Asus (upcoming) and the Clevo
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Go with the Clevo.
That thing is an insane deal and will probably be better built as well. -
According to hothardware.com, the Asus M60J notebook is also joining the i7 club.

I gave in and ordered the Sager. Now I don't get my EEE controllers, ROG backpack, and mouse. I really wanted those EEE controllers.
If for any reason the G51j shows up in stock before the Sager, I'm back to Asus.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I don't think so, asus is always late compared to sager....
-
That stupid intel link just sends you to Asus' site but theres nothing there about the new laptops. When are these coming out? I wonder if they are going to change the case design.

do you know about the cooling does it still have one fan? -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
It has the same GPU and don't think the fans changed but I could be wrong. We don't have much more then the basic specs/pricing for now.
-
I'M BACK WITH ASUS!!!!!!!! -
What made you choose the Asus? The Sager is clearly the better laptop because of the cooling. -
They also include the OS, although I have already purchased win7 pro cuz I thought I was gonna get the Sager.
I also get the back pack, mouse, BACKLIT KEYBOARD and, lastly, the EEE STICKS.
I got all that for less than 300+, compared to the Sager. Also, I really like the idea of the dual hard drives from Asus.
I'm not a gamer whatsoever. I don't need the gtx280m. Heck, I don't even need the gtx 260m. All I wanted was a computer with a video card. -
In that case, why not get a Dell? The studio XPS 16 would be a better fit for your needs than an Asus or Sager. It has a much better display and you will get better warranty service with Dell. It's built out of better material than Asus and it has a backlit keyboard (with ambient light detection).

Great price for the G51J
