    Hi,

    Short story:
    LCD broke on UX31LA (1600*900)
    Bought a new one (1920*1080)
Replaced the screen, works "perfectly" but fan is loud and running constantly

As mentioned over. The screen works but the fan is running constantly. The laptop is not warm. Under 40 celsius.
I was wondering if someone could help me fix this. If it is fixable of course. I have tried uninstalling the screen/graphic driver.

    Thanks in advance.

May have missed connecting a cable 100% which really can just be figured out by taking it back apart. However since the sensor is reporting 40C it sounds like its correct. But if the only thing the changed beside changing the screen was you taking it apart, there has to be something that wasn't put back correctly.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have switched back and forth between the two screens a couple of times, and it seems like the problem is with the new screen. When i turn the computer on the fan goes full speed instantly. With the other screen the fan is pretty quiet. So there has to be another problem i guess?

Out of curiosity, where did you buy the new screen?

Different video cables? Or are you using the same video cable between two screens?

I am not sure how to answer that question. I bought a new LCD. The screen looks exactly the same but it has a higher resolution. HD+ to FHD. It came with cables and i just plugged them in where the old used to be. When i switch back and forth the fan is silent with the old broken screen but with the new screen the fan runs constantly.

Thanks for your reply. Really appreciate it.

    You're welcome. :)

You answered my question, haha. I was asking whether you used the cable that came with the new monitor, or did you use the cable on the old monitor that was being replaced on the new screen. It sounds like you used a new cable with the respective screen. If they're identical cables, you can try swapping them. The higher resolution will yield a slight performance hit, but honestly it's so minimal it shouldn't force the fans to rev, so this is likely a compatibility problem.

I'm not sure thats possible? The cables seems pretty attached to the LCD. I'm not an expert but i don't see how you could easily change the cables.

I think you might be right about the compatibility problem. There is no other reason for the fan to go max speed constantly when the computer is only 37-40 degrees celsius?

It's definitely irregular behavior for swapping a panel. I'm not sure what specifically is causing it, but I do suggest getting in touch with the seller to inquire further if that's an option that's open to you.

Talked to the seller. They did not know what the problem could be as they hadn't experienced it before.

Anyone, please? Why is the fan going bananas? I'm sick of this broken screen.
