New Laptop User with a a few questions please!

SO I just purchased the Asus Notebook Q550LF series. And I have a few questions with it, apart from trying to get used to Windows 8.1 which is a feat considering I'm coming from Vista O_O

Anyways, first question. It came with a SonicMaster subwoofer with a 2.5 mm jack. The thing isn't working. No sound/bass comes out of it when I play anything from the computer. Anyone have any clue about how to make this thing work?

Second, how in the world do I make sure all my drivers are up to date? The guy at Best Buy said that these things don't ship updated and to make sure "I do all of the window updates, and all the driver updates." He also mentioned that the video card has extra drivers I might need. I'm kind of overwhelmed! I didn't have to do all of this with my desktop...so help would be MUCH appreciated!

The subwoofer should activate automatically since the Realtek audio driver is already installed.

 

You shouldn't need to worry about making sure all your drivers are up to date, maybe just the video card driver. With notebooks other drivers are rarely updated anyhow, and if one does need updating you should realize it by some errors or really lower then expected performance.

 

Drivers aside, your Windows updates can be set (and may be already) to automatically update with no intervention on your part. As for the sub woofer, if you can't get it to produce anything, you may want to contact Asus support. Try to reload your audio driver first.
