    COMPUTEX 2011: ASUS N5 Series Enhanced audio notebook | Video - Techinstyle.tv

In co-operation with Bang and Olufsen ICEPower, ASUS Sensitivity and Engineering labs have worked to deliver this year’s SonicMaster laptop – the N5 series.

With 30mm upward facing drivers under the aluminium grill below the IPS display, and a separate and patented SonicMaster subwoofer, this notebook is designed to give you the best possible audio experience from a mobile product.

Master designer David Lewis, who also designed last year’s NX90 notebook, has also contributed to the new N5 series this year too. The evidence is in the mirrored cover and U-shaped aluminium protective edge, as well as the simple and chic design inside. It may not be fashionably ultra-thin, but it’s a powerhouse of hardware in a beautiful shell.

With a second generation Intel Core-i5 CPU (i7), Nvidia 500-series graphics (GT 555M DDR3), Blu-ray, USB 3 and a high-colour HD resolution display, it’s the ultimate desktop replacement.

I'm disappointed! They are ugly. The previous N design was stunning!

It looks like the GT555M included is also not the fully fledged GT555M equipped in Alienware (144 shaders), but rather the same as the Lenovo Y570... 96 shaders, 128bit.

Why does Nvidia keep on pulling shenanigans like this all the time?

Wow, that looks quite a bit uglier than the current one... Any idea on a release date? And how much faster is the 96 shader 555m than the 540m? I was about to buy the N53SV XV1 today...

I was actually thinking of buying this but this design is ugly as sin! The previous design was absolutely beautiful!

    Shame on them.

    I think you are wrong.
    GeForce GT 555M

DDR3 version is actually faster than the GDDR5 version.

    GT 555M (SDDR3)
    CUDA Cores
    144

    Memory Interface Width
    Up to 192 bit

Is IPS display better than LCD?

IPS is a type of LCD panel. Most notebook panels are TN panels, which are very cheap comparatively to IPS or PVA panels, but they don't look as good. IPS basically is the best LCD panel on the market at this time.

Personally I'm not entirely sure if ASUS indeed put an IPS panel in the notebook. If that's the case, then the panel itself would contribute quite a bit to the price of the notebook (think $200~300 for the panel itself).

No. Thanks they look UGLY. Looks like a cross between a macbook and a dell- not a good combo. What was the designer thinking?
Soo glad I've got my stunning N43. :)
