Hi, I just bought a G1S-A1 from excaliberpc and everything is going well with the laptop except for the screen. There is some pretty bad light leakage when viewing a black screen from the left side. This is not noticeable when viewing directly from the front or the right of the screen. See picture below for the left side shot.

Anyways, is this normal with asus screens? Should I contact Asus for this?

I just spent a chunk of change on this laptop so I wanna make sure everything is okay...

    Thanks,
    ~d

Yea, i have noticed this to with my G1S !
You can only see that when you look from the left side.
Also, now it's light in this room and i can't see it but in the evening you can see it very well.

I think this is just normal, nothing to worry about :)

I don't get it. What is the leakage? I don't notice anything wrong with my new A1...

Screen leakage is usually only noticeable with a black background. So have your laptop show a black background and then check your side-to-side viewing angle. I only notice the leakage when viewing the laptop from the left side.

Pretty much all of Asus' screens show some light leak to various degrees if you look in the right places or hard enough.

What you're seeing is normal, and if you can't see it when looking head-on you'll never notice it anyway (esp since you won't be gaming or watching a movie from off center left). Enjoy your new toy :).

Yeah...I'm starting to figure that out now. I guess there's no such thing as a "perfect laptop" :D

Anyways, now I gotta figure out how to play Crisis on this thing... time to OC.

Same light leakage here... Really looks weird but it's hardly noticeable when the screen is not black. :p

    One question to Theros...

How did you manage to run Crysis with Direct X 10?

I can run it allright with medium settings at 1280x768 but I noticed that it's running under DirectX9.

Try to run the GPU benchmarks and see if you are really running under DX10.

    Cheers!

    Update:

Here is the response from Asus:

    Here was my original question:

So, what should I do? The screen problems seems to be pretty common, according to the replies to this thread. Yet Asus wants me to send it in for replacement. Has anybody had good experience with Asus repair? I would hate to send in my computer to have the screen replaced and end up getting a laptop with scratches or not put together properly.

    I wouldn't bother...

Even though mine presents some light leakage from the bottom edge, it does not bother me at all.

What I've noticed tho is that compared to my old Asus G1 this screen (the one on the G1S has less brightness play, that is, I used to have more brightness levels on my G1. The G1S has less brightness levels to play with.

    Have anyone noticed this?

    TIA,
    RayanMX

    Thanks for your input, RayanMX.

I'm not usually picky about stuff like this but this thing is just plain annoying me, especially when watching a movie with dark scenes.

I called asus tech support and they say shipping both ways are covered for the repair.

I really wanna chance having it fix... but I'm just afraid something else might go wrong during the repair.

there is light leakage on mine of course, but it doesn't seem to be to the extent that yours is. A little fact tho, I did have my screen replaced because of a stuck pixel, so that might have changed something. ASUS repair seems to be pretty good. They're quick and they pay for everything, so if you can manage to part with your baby for about a week, you should try it out.

I received my G1S about three weeks ago and it had a dead/stuck pixel. I don't know how or why but that dead pixel is no longer dead/stuck! whoohoo!!!!

Lightleakage on the other hand it's still there but I see it only if I look for it.

I'm enjoying my G1S and don't regret the purchase at all!!!!

    Peace!

Well... I did end up sending the unit back to Asus so they can check the screen. But they told me that the screen meets their lcd standards, even with the leakage. Good thing that they pay for overnight shipping both ways so my laptop was back within 3 days.
