Well, even though this isn't going to come in as an ensemble... this is basically what we were going to get and are going to try to get as a barebone...... It does exist, as I said... and don't feel bad saying that I was right.

*EDIT* ... as soon as I posted it, it looks like they are actually working on it right now... The two models which will show up, soon..... are the W1Vc and W1Vb..... try it later.

What kind of graphics card will it have?

Man....just when I thought deciding on whether to get the z70v or the z70va was hard, now come another contender that is going to make my head explode.

So, if we preordered the W2, we can still change our mind and get this one instead, up until the day the W2 hits the docks, right?

Do you feel the schedule for the W1 barebone may be moving faster than you previously thought?

O.K.... I think I am going to give 1 month of waiting and not buying any laptop until the z70va and the W1Vc and W1Vb.

I heard that "patience is a virtue"...so I am going to apply this adage.

What kind of TV tuner support will the newer W2/(W1V) get in North America? The W2V(c) in Europe has DVB-T, but I guess that will be kind of useless in the US. Analouge NTSC only?

Whoa..... hold your horses....... We're looking at two months if we can even get enough support to bring in the W1 as a barebone..... right now, stop even considering it because it's a long shot and we've' got to see how W2 sales go before Asus would even let us order them......

All I started this thread for was to show everyone that the W1 does have a new model (as I promised) and that it's there. From what I hear, not too many countries are even going to order it (if any at all) .......... the US was the last hold out who wanted them, so I don't know what they're going to do but they did put them on their website.

So this thread really doesn't need any comments. It's just here for people to look at and know that I was right :) ... just kidding... But I don't want this thread going anywhere because apparently people can't really read.. It's not even anything anyone should be debating over because right now it's still a long shot and is going to take a long time just to go through the process to *maybe* get it over here.

Asus said the reason they didn't want to bring it over as an ensemble is because the unit would run only about $100 less than the W2 (if configured the same)....... about $200 less if they lowered the hard drive and maybe the cpu....... so it's too expensive and if they lowered the spec so that they had something directly inbetween the V6 and the W2...... the spec would be too low for someone to want to get it... What they most likely would need to do would be to drop the cpu, hard drive, no tv tuner (which means no remote and consumer IR) .......and probably lower the ram as well. So that's why this is only on the table as a barebone and you should know that *I* put it on the table.... just the other night. Apparently it wasn't on the table as I had thought because they just figured to scrap the idea of a new W1 all together. So, I'd love to tell you that the wheels are spinning, but they're not... yet. Next week we're going to talk and see what happens but for all intents and purposes.... if we could get the W1 with those carbon fiber weave lids and palm rests.... configured like the W2, I bet, even as a barebone... it would be close to the same price.

So, I know you want to dream, but don't second guess yourself. If Asus tells us we've got to bring in 500 of them just to make it worth shipping them, becasue it's a high end unit, I don't know if we can justify it. Right now, they're going to have to come up with better numbers.

Yeah, as it says on the page... I did that up for you guys so you know how we work these things... they're just to get your butt in line and your information there so the day they hit port and we announce it...... we don't have EVERYONE going to get an order in... It's just a way to cut down on everyone jumping in at the last minute and that saves us time.

I posted those links just to prove it's a real model....... really had nothing to do with the barebone because I know what I've talked to Asus about... it was just to prove to some people that Asus isn't "replacing" the W1 with the W2.... enough said, right?

I won't expect a W1 barebone till the end of September.... if we can even work everything out.... Right now Asus focus for August is going to be on the W2 and on other barebone models..... Apparently they want to shift their focus back to the Z71v for some reason...... They're not updating it or anything, but with all the models that came out after the Z71v came out..... attention has shifted away from it and with seagate getting out their sATA hard drives at the end of this month... they want to push the Z71v.......

So it's a waiting game and I'm almost sorry I mentioned it..... Really it's going to be a process and I'll fill everyone in, but it's still far from a sure thing.

I hope it makes it's way to the states. I've been looking forward to this model, especially with it's lower profile compared to the M6 series.

    Hi j_g,

Did they tell you how the pricing will compare to the W2v in Australia?

I wasn't told about the pricing. I estimate it would be only a few hundred bucks cheaper than than the W2V coz this store quoted me AUD$4400+ when I wanted the W1Gc with Pentium M 2.0GHz, 2GB Corsair DDR Ram and 80GB hd.

Whoa! That is around 3300 USD!!

How much are they charging for the components?

If most all the pricing transfers over directly...that would put the price of the W1 barebones well over 2000 USD all by itself.

That doesn't sound quite right to me but what do I know...

    Agreed. I would expect a WSXGA+ display.

Yeah, with a nice X700 card in there, I wouldn't want to be stuck gaming at WXGA when the card is capable of going much higher! :D

Looks like a nice computer otherwise. :centrino:

I finally find the perfect laptop for me and now I'm forced to get my new comp within two weeks. Great, just great.

edit: Might get the W1N instead. Say, how's the Mobility Radeon 9600 for Sims 2? As long as it plays it above 20fps at 1680x1050 I'd be happy.

Sims 2 isn't very graphics demanding. You could get by with the latest integrated graphics!
