New W1 information

Well, it looks like the W1 refresh may just be more than we expected.

They aren't ordered yet because they aren't even available TO order yet.

But Asus expressed today that there are two major changes that they are anticipating ordering the W1 sonoma refresh with the follow changes.

1. a 15.4" colorshine screen
2. a 128mb ATI x700 graphics card.
3. digital cable tv tuner card

Rub your eyes again...... but it's still going to be here.

What do you estimate the price range on this?

Please let it be under $2200..

 

If all of this information is correct......... Asus also said the W2 that they have as a demo (which is the unit that Startech photographed during Asus' floor day)...... has a colorshine screen on it.

So basically, the W1 and W1 will only really vary in the screen size..... they'll both probably have 1gb of ddr2 533..... and at least an 80gb/5400rpm hard drive... maybe more.

So I can see the W1 maybe being as little as $100-$200 more than the W1....

looks like ill be getting the W1 refresh [ ]. now if only they gave us an ETA....

 

They should make it compete in price with the Acer 8103/8104 as the 8104 will likely have the same specs.. except 8104 doesn't have color shine, but has 100 gig HDD.

This is whats weighing my decision.. either the 8103, new W1, or W3.

 

will they refresh the V6? if they can put a x700 in the W1 could it be a possiblitly in a refreshed v6?

 

Well, the current model just got dropped to $2,200..... I don't think you can except this new model which is much more than just a refresh to be the same price. My guess is $2,400- $2,500. If it's lower than that, this would be an absolute steal.

Well first, the V6 is too new to refresh. Also, the thickness of the entire V6 is probably just as thick as maybe the bottom case of the W1.. if that.....

Down the road though, in say 6 months, maybe they can fit something like that in the V6. If they could, it should also be something that could be upgraded to as well...... but for right now, don't expect anything to really change on the V6.

Frankly, "the deal" was that there wasn't going to be a new W1..... not just no new W1 in Europe (which I could care less about)... but It's going to be coming out in a little over a month (begining of June), so you'll have to wait till then.

I come to these forums everyday and read about upcoming Asus products and what people think about Asus laptops. I do not come here to read anti_escrow_swat's asinine comments or derogatory banter that is, obviously, just unreasonable tactics to try and smear or discredit certain members and merchants like ProPortable or Justin.

This kind of behavior is not only absurd, it is unnecessary and uncalled for in a forum where people come to talk about Asus products. It is completely out of line to start using derogatory language, which I will not mention again, in this forum. If you have some kind of bet or disagreement with Justin, it is best taken care of in private. Polluting these forums with your offensive language and callous implications is wrong. I, personally, would like you to stop.

But, back on topic, the "refreshed" W1 looks like a winner. I was initially excited about the Asus Z71V, but it's "sparkly" screen is a definite turn off for me. THANK YOU for sharing your information with us, Justin. I'm looking forward to this laptop!

 

Hey, someone else from DC... glad to see your first post directed at me.

The new W1 has the same chassis (might come in black anondized aluminum instead of regular aluminum just to match the new W3/W2).. but the dimensions won't change.... if anything it'll be an ounce or two more with the mini pci tv tuner card in place.

Both are at least a month away. As of this evening Asus said neither are available for them to order yet..... so when they aren't available to order yet, the ETA stays at least a month away.

also, will they upgrade the chipset as well?

and any news on when it might appear? i'd rather go for the 15.4 vs. 17 W2v...

either way i know i'm waiting, nothing out there that really floats my boat.

Once Asus orders them, it's about a week to put together their order and a week to ship and then maybe another 4-5 days for transporting from port, to Asus, to dealers... making room for a weekend in there as well. So, lets say from the point your notebook is actually made in Taiwan, it could be in your hands in almost 3 weeks.

As far as the standards.... ATI and Nvidia don't really have a great standard designed themselves yet... What are there, 5 form factors between the 2? If Asus makes a new card for that notebook, you'll be able to upgrade to it... it is removable...

Thanks AuroraS, it seems that all this stuff gets posted while I'm asleep in my lovely south of France appartment...Which makes me think that the problem posts are coming from the States.
