There is a new W2 (W2Pc-U007P in the UK) coming out with Core 2 Duo and an Ati X1700 GPU in the UK in early October. It will be around £1900 - £2000.

The W2p won't be here till close to early to mid-November (till 6 weeks away). It will sport a Core 2 Duo T7200, a 120gb/5400rpm HDD and a 256mb ATI x1700. Other than that, there aren't any changes. The US model certainly should come in WSXGA+ this time, otherwise I don't see why they'd bring it over... Pricing should be around $2,400-$2,500 USD.

how long till quad cores come out for laptops ?
estimate ? really wanna buy a merom core 2 duo lap .. had the w2p in mind

anyone know how quickly they might remake this lap cause they did remake the w2 with the w2jb pretty soon after... so its just a matter of picking an ideal time to buy

Will the W2 and W3 be the same except for a smaller screen? Both W2 and W3 have been for more than a year... so if you're asking specifics design wise, I really hope you can see the difference at least in pictures... they're really not much alike at all, except for the fact that they are both in the W series, so they share some like design details.. that's about it.

If you're talking about cpu - no, the W2 will get the higher end T7200 and the W3jp will get the T5600.

Don't forget this has an HD-DVD drive, but at this price it's comparable to the Quosimo.

The HD-DVD drive isn't confirmed for the US spec or for that price for that matter. Right now an 8x Super Multi DVD burner for a notebook costs about $200. An HD-DVD drive for a notebook is more than double that... I believe it's actually more than triple, but just for the sake of the arguement, I don't think Asus is going to be able to get an HD-DVD drive into the W2p while keeping the price around $2500. I've seen stranger things happen, but don't count on it, at least yet.

Ya, i think so. if the w2 would be equiped with HD rom, it would rocket the price to 3000+

The Mobility Radeon X1800 is the fastest of the three, by far, but is basically non-existent (Nvidia has close to 100% of the high-end mobile market with the Geforce Go 7800/7900). The only machine that comes to mind that has one is the Dell XPS M2010.

The X1700 is a slightly speed-bumped X1600 - not much of an upgrade, but still a pretty solid mid-range mobile card.
