Well, I knew I should have said it earlier, but I said last night, we're looking at a month for these to come in, and that today we could add another day and so on and so forth until the units come in.

Wellll.... They are getting ordered and the apparent specs are going to be basically what we expected. It's not written in stone yet, but once they are ordered in the next couple days, the price and configuration will be SET and we'll start our pre-order.

    W2v: Possible ~ $2,700.00
    17" WSXGA+
    2.0 Ghz P-M
    128mb ATI X700
    1GB DDR2 533 (2 x 512 - dual channel)
    100gb Hard Drive.
    Bluetooth
    Digital TV tuner with Remote
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
    ~7.2 pounds

    Questions yet to be answered:

    - I asked Asus is it would be possible to do maybe a 1 x 1gb configuration and 1gb ddr2 533 sticks aren't available to them, so that's out.

    - Asus did say at another time that this will be coming with a color shine (glaretype) display.... as that is what they have on their demo unit...... but it wasn't brought up in this recent talk about configuration..... they will verify that in the next day or so.

    - The dvd drive is certainly going to be an 8x dual layer burner.... as that is basically standard on all of Asus' systems. However, Asus' demo used a slot load drive (which is awesome)..... but they haven't confirmed that...... internationally I think they are sticking with a tray load system..... So, either we'll be the only ones with a slot load, or the final production units won't have it.

    - Also, I asked them the speed of the drive... we're going to assume 5400rpm at this point, but it's certainly not 7200rpm. I said a 100gb /7200rpm serial ATA drive would rock, but of course these drives aren't going to be available to them since production on these units for the states may start by the end of the week.

    - ETA: well, if they get ordered in the next day or so, it's possible to get them in three weeks...... but it won't be till next week at least that we would know they were say two weeks away.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Just trying to relay the configuration data so people can decide if it's worth the price and start to make plans to wait for it or look at something else.

Thanks Justin, this is very much appreciated.

Has Asus indicated what the pricing may be on the W1 refresh at all or has that model not been discussed yet. -Rob

Again, there is news...... everything is basically nailed down, including the price of $2,700.00 ....... but it's going to be almost July, if not the first week of July before they arrive.

    Thanks,

As of late last night....... no it's not. Asus likes the "cool factor" as well, but they are weighing the alternatives. This apparently is holding things up.

It's certainly a DTR, but there's nothing that's going to have anything on the overall package of the W2v...... weight, design, features, price.... it's going to be hot.

Well the W2 is supposed to come first..... so I wouldn't bet on the W1 coming any sooner than say at least 2 weeks after the W2 comes in.

    Thanks,
