    Hi Everyone,

I hope I'm not mistaken, but today when looking at Windows Update on my W2V, there was an update dated Sept. 23rd for the Realtek Audio Driver.

I downloaded and installed, but sure if anything has changed, but there is a new driver....

Yeah, RealTek released their new 3.76 drivers - they work pretty good from what I heard.

However...I have had problems getting my drivers from Windows update - you are better off going to RealTek's site and downloading the drivers.

He's talking about HD not AC97. If you check Realtek site you'll see there's an HD drivers' update dated on 29th, September. V1.25.
I've already installed and I don't see any differences but I'm not an audio expert, and my previous laptop didn't have a wonderful sound...

Where did you find that driver? I used the auto update and it didnt find anything from Realtek, instead it installed some random drivers and now I have no sound.

I also tried looking here but theres nothing dated 09/29 or V1.25

There's no update from Asus. Simply from Realtek either through XP or direct from the Realtek website. Asus haven't released updated audio drivers audio drivers since the W2V came out. Although they did (accidentally?) change the date of about 70% of their drivers without changing the actual files a month or so ago.

By the way I disabled Live Update very shortly after getting my laptop. I personally can't see the point in having yet another background process running simply to check for driver updates for me.

I use a personalised Live Update: Check the ASUS Support website once a week :lol though I check this forum everyday and the chances that somebody had already checked the site before my weekly check are very high so I'm startin' to think about "uninstalling" my own Live Update software :p

I found the Live Update to be incredibly annoying; it would hang and remain connected for hours on end without displaying anything so, I too, turned it off. Much better this way.

I DL'ed the Realtek driver from Windows Update mostly because the app didn't consistently initiate properly. No icon in taskbar. Don't see any diff in terms of what it did but at least the program opens now.

.... live update isn't like an auto update on windows... I suggest letting it run once every 90 days... all it's there for is to find 100% critical updates....... there are probably a ton that you'll want to update, but over time, trust me.. you'll lose focus and not think to look. Live update is just a method for those who would never check themselves, or those of us who just don't think about it all the time..... Either way, all it'll do is tell you there's something there and offer to download it...... you'll still need to make the install.
