They also put up a new Ati driverset which you need to enable the following feature:

Support ATI Hyper-Memory function. Please update the ATI graphic driver to v8.172 or above to enable this function

Well, it's the first update in a long time, downloading now........

I installed the new BIOS the other day ... good news is that the Fan is no longer on flat chat all the time :)

Bad news, there was no option to shrink the LCD on bootup, and the sound is still crappy..

As for the driver I am using Omega Drivers and am more then happy with them.

I've been running the new BIOS a couple of days now and I cannot see (or better: hear) any difference with the old situation, sound is still crappy and the fan still won't shut up... :)

How do i update the bios??
I downloaded the file and now what?
In the bios i can't update because there is no floppydrive.
On the site of Asus i can't find a manual to explain this.

There should be a folder in your start menu called Asus utilities, which contains the program easy flash for Windows. This way you can update the BIOS in Windows. If it's not there you should also be able to download it from the Asus site...

What a nightmare! After flashing this new killer-bios the Mat****a burner just stopped working. It ruined five (!) DVD+R disks and 3 CD-Rs. Some of them it just refused to burn at all, others were real amoc: after 5 minutes of burning the W2v just crashed upon me and reset by itself.
The end of this tragedy is even more sad: winflash utility refuses to flash the previous bios back because it's older! :) LOL. Anyone knows how to flash the older bios back?

Create a Bootable disk, download AMIFlash from the ASUS-website and flash it back in DOS-Mode.

A good bootable CD is This one, be sure to read the readme first!

I believe its aflash2.exe, not AMIflash.

You can also create a boot cd in nero really easy.

I'm sure Aflash2.exe is about the same as Amiflash. But it doesn't matter, RealHistory knows what i mean right?

OK, thank you brothers-in-asus-grief for the advice :) The nightmare is over: created boot cd, flashed back 0206A (unfortunately I didn't make copy of the originally installed 0207A bios and 0206A was the only one at hand) and burning is back alive and kicking! A real acid test: 3 DVDs in different burning programs (Nero, NTI, Sateira) - all works just fine.
Well, the same old sweet fan non-stop noise is back too, but 0210A didn't fix it anyway.
Thus, my advice: don't even think of flashing 0210A - it's a shameful lough which doesn't fix any old problems and just adds new ones like in my case.

Matsu****a is OEM name for Panasonic. I had a similar one in my previous notebook (Toshiba Satellite M30x-118) and it's just as gory.

Funny cerberus guarding our forum cuts out "s-h-i-t" from Matsu****a name as if guessing its weak point :)

Wel, i have 0210A installed and works fine for me.
I tested the DVD burner after youre reply and works perfect.
How is it possible it doesn't work for you RealHistory?
Was the bios 0210A maybe corrupt from downloading?
And yes my fan still turns non-stop.

Corrupted bios was my first thought but how could it flash in the first hand? It installed allright and everything else worked fine (just as with the previous bios :), the DVD-drive could read the disks and even burnt some CDs successfully but exploded with the first DVD blank. Anyway, my point is it doesn't matter that 0210A works on your machine and works on somebody else's. The point is if it breaks down even on rare configurations it doesn't deserve to be considered. Let alone it doesn't fix ANY of so long awaited faults like fan or sound.

Well my flash HAS made the fan HEAPS quieter ... especially whilst playing games so I am happy with it. No issues with the DVD burner either.

Matsu****a is the mother company of Panasonic.... although all products that come to the US are considered "Panasonic", a lot of the branding of products that are sold to Taiwan and built into a system -- like an Asus notebook -- will use the Matsu****a brand name....... although regardless of the brand name, the model numbers are all the same.... so you could look up the model of the drive and find the same info, under two different brand names.

Strange that some report that the fan issue is solved and some don't (like me). Does anyone know where I can set the hypermemory? I installed the Omega 5.12 drivers, but there's no tab for hypermemory...

As far as i can tell they changed the limit on when the fan kicks in, a bit. But once the computer gets warm, with ac power, and in a normal temperature room, you will not hear a difference. But when you start the computer from cold state, you can tell it takes a bit longer than usual, before the fan spins fulltime.

About the hypermemory, there is nothing to set. As soon as you use a videocard driver that supports it, it will be using hypermemory.
    See attached picture.

well.. on AC power, you're already running at full cpu........ so even if you don't need it, you've got that power and you're creating the heat that goes along with that... unplug it and you'll see a difference........ notebooks aren't meant to be always used plugged in..... those cords are to charge the battery :)

Thats not true if you set the power scheme to max battery, undervolt the cpu (in my case to 0.732V) and underclock the videochip to 100/100MHz using Notebook Hardware Control. Still the fan keeps on going, even if the temperature falls well below 40 degrees Celcius...
