I just got my new W3V, which I'm loving, and I have a few questions.

First, the w3v seems to have built in infrared. Does this mean that I can use a remote control for media control without an adaptor? If so, what remotes would be compatible?

Unfortunately, my camera uses compact flash, and not SD, so I can't use the built in card reader. Is there any type of adaptor that would allow me to connect a CF card to the SD slot? If not, can somebody recommend a good Cardbus CF reader?

Dont know about the remote, but for the Compact Flash card- There's no CF to SD adapter, but there are CF to USB adapters out there.

No, the only notebooks with a consumer IR are the W1 and W2.

There are two reasons notebooks come with those 4 in 1 readers and no CF... 1... CF takes up more room. 2. CF pcmcia readers are like $5 and easy to throw in an empty pcmcia slot.

I'm also curious.. I think wmc remote and like works for windows media player w/ no need of software?

I'm also guessing any remote works fine? My brother uses external IR for his wmc home theatre and I think he use software called "girder" to learn remotes.. I haven't tried it myself, but I might try it tomorrow...

Some people can get FIR on the laptops to work with some remotes and certain software. The biggest difference is that CIR works up to 30' and FIR works at a max of 3' ........ but technically you can get software and program the FIR to work... but at 3', whats the point?

Yes I agree, there's no point in it. I know there are 3rd party multimedia remotes with their own dongles or IR ports, but I think you dont want to hook anything up to it or extruding from it, right? I'd just say... lean over and press them buttons & forget the remote. :p

what about a bluetooth remote? a class II should be good for 10m or 30ish ft. and with BT, you don't need a direct line-of-sight.

... is there a "remote" BT profile?

Have you found any good bluetooth remotes? I haven't seen any that are really worth while and to top it off they are very expensive.

alright, I can I can forget about the built in IR then. I thought it might be nice if I could get a tv-tuner and then use the laptop as a tv/pvr. Most tv-tuners come with their own IR system anyway, though.
