OK, as of Friday April 8th at 9pm..... I've got some not so great news... but not bad either.

W3's didn't show up at Asus today and they are effectively MIA... At close of business today Asus had to switch the ETA to... no ETA... they have to find out where they are on Monday.

Also... in a bit I'm going to be updated on the new final version of the warranty and all the other little tid bits that all of you are waiting for..... Questions I'll try to get answers to are below... anyone with more, please fill in questions in another post and I'll see if I can get answers.

    1. # of usb's.... confirmation of s-video
    2. aluminum palmrest with up facing speakers... alla V6v
    3. When does the 3 year warranty go into effect and the details

I've got some other ones... but I'll just fill you guys in when I hear more.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Oh yeah you can count on that, but hopefully only a day or two as I'm sure the shipment will arrive in it's own time. Shipping from overseas and Customs isn't an exact science. However, I'm starting to get the vibe that our boy Justin knows something he isn't telling....

OK, first of all.... the usual shipments arrived today, and the W3's were not part of the shipment..... and it was too late in the day for them to find out what was going on. So, the only thing to do is for them to try to find out what's happening on Monday.

Now, aside from that, I appalled that you think I'm hiding something from you. What pisses me off is the fact that Asus has been changing things and saying things and then changing them again.

Whats going on with the W3 is going to set the stage for everything to follow. Basically, these "authorized dealers" are only going to offer the packaged systems. Those who offer customization apparently Asus can't NOT sell to them, but they can not honor the warranty..... which is what is going to happen. Authorized dealers will give their customers a 3 year asus warranty....... where as those who go against asus' wishes and want to continue to customize their complete systems will have to offer their customers their own warranty on every ensemble they sell. It's sort of like "authorized dealers" for car audio stuff...... You might be able to find a better deal somewhere else.... but you are buying it without a warranty........ most consider that "grey market" in the car audio field....... not to say it's not new, and all legit, but you lose stuff that "authorized dealers" offer..... but you're still paying for them........ namely a 3 year global warranty which is worth about $450..... and I'd say that $250 of that is honestly already built into the price of the system (one reason for instance... an s5n ensemble -- back in the august time frame.. cost more for the same configuration than the barebone s5n which we were still selling at the time.) That only leads me to believe that one of the reasons the emsembles do cost more is becasue of the cost of their great warranty that is built in...... all the more reason to appreciate it... if you weren't already paying for it...... you can say, big deal! .. but if you pay for it, and then void it... it seems like a waste of money........ I think this is one reason we're going to go the route of the authorized dealership and stay legit.

This policy isn't supposed to go into effect officially till May 1st.... but I also here the W3's release will be the effective start date.

Also, Asus may be bringing in more than 100 units now.. whether together or within a weeks time..... due to the already amazing popularity. With that, Asus now asked us to set the price at $2,000. Like I mentioned before, all pre-orders would be adjusted before processing anyway.........

    Have a good night.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Apalled? Don't go overboard there big boy. I was just checking. I'd hate for you to get crazy and cancel my preorder or something. [ :D]

Clearly, there is little communication between ASUS USA and ASUS manufacturing even though they are the same company. This is not unlike any other large corporation. Try to talk to Dell customer service for instance.

Does no one here see what is going on. Repeatedly we hear someone telling everyone how it is, how it is going to be and how everyone else is wrong. Then as time goes by the story changes, What was absolutly going to happen, doesn't. The price mysteriously drops after faulting others for being at that price from the beginning. Those who have been customizing are going to be cancelled or cut off. Oh that was wrong too. There were also threats that other dealers will not be getting the W3's on the initial shipment because he says they are all comitted to him. Now that has changed too.
Folks, do you think this has been one big story all along. I do. Just remember you have been following the tales from one person and the tale keeps changing.
Now if I was being played by Asus and I was guilty of only repeating what I was told by Asus then I think I would wise up and refrain from repeating what I was told. At least until is was told to all by Asus, preferably in writing.

Actually there's a huge difference. Until Friday, the OFFICIAL price was $2,100..... it has now changed. Over a week ago, you yourself Bill were informed of that and you guys stuck up a pre-order for 2000 simply to try to undercut our company, and then used the wording like "if the price goes up we'll let you know before processing". From my understanding you were just mad that Asus is helping us provide access points to our pre-order customers.

In regards to you customizing the ensemble notebooks, until the warranty was finalized, what I said was the absolute truth at the time. However, apparently Asus is more concerned with making money than controlling the integrity of their systems. However, making you sell it as a "star" system and not an "asus" is one of the few ways they are going to seperate you from the pack. Instead of cutting you off, they are just going to find ways to value companies who don't hurt the integrity of their global warranty by making a select group of companies who they prefer, "authorized/prefered dealers". From that point, all customers buying from those dealers will recieve a third year on their global warranty for free.

So yes, information changes. I just care enough to update the community of this forum. When you get your own stuff straightened out, then come and try to put me down. But till then, since you are the head of a company who sells Asus..... do everyone a favor and keep a signature so people know the person behind the comments.

I demand a battle to the death between startech, proportable and the other one! I demand that you guys get locked in a cage and smash each other over the head repeatedly with asus w3v laptops. Meanwhile, we can try to make out what features laptops have from the pictures. In order to be succesful, please be sure to hit hard enough to crack open laptop so we can see the insides. [ :D]

Proportable seems to post to bring the updated info. to the forums. And they answers questions all the time.

Startech seems to only post when they think they have a chance to sell something or to fight with Proportable.

Startech, for being in business for 25 years, you really should know that companies change there minds all the time. Proportable does not run Asus. They are just going by what they are told by Asus.

Like I said, Proportable at least keeps the forum updated and follows Asus rules the best they can.

Do those machines that you can customize at Startech have those glare type screens or is it only the Ensemble models?

From what I remember of my Dell experience it cant be hard putting in a stick of RAM. 3 years sounds like the lifespan of the product which can only be a good thing.

When stuff is coming from Taiwan and you have effectivally one part of the company who can only take the other side of the companies word for it...... Asus US is often "surprised" when things show up and when they don't.

So, do I want to say this is all just one big guess on everyone's part? ... no not at all. When Asus US is convinced Taiwan has finally given them accurate information, then they pass it along.

This stuff isn't just being shipped down for northern california or anything.

With regards to the price change. Put is this way. Asus confirmed the price weeks ago. We said if it changed from Asus within 15 days of when they first shipped... we've adjust everyone's price. We HAVE to sell it for what Asus wants... no higher, no lower.... So, it would make no sense to highball or lowball anyone...... and total sense for the moment the price changed, to change it. When I'm working on these things I do have to work on the fly to keep everyone updated. Now that you know how it works, you'll understand why most companies don't even bother to ask about new stuff until it's in their hands........ and hopefully it'll give you an insist into how working with a huge international company can be. Laptop after laptop.. and pocket pc after pocket pc.... it's the same story. One thing always holds true though..... the new stuff that you think no one is interested in always shows up under the radar... I can't think of anything off the top of my head... but say... the new Z70a... the M6 refresh with integrated graphics... I wouldn't be surprised if an order of them just shows up at our door today.... Any with that.... it wouldn't phase me in the least if something like the W2 just gets scraped because of 17" lcd shortages or something.....

You've got to live on the edge and hope for the best and trust the best infromation you have at the time.

    Justin

On that note, I think it's time to start placing bets!

What is the W3v going to look like?

When will it get to the U.S.?

Will it just show up on Justin's doorstep with no prior warning?

    Will there be perforations?

Will there be an ugly inlay around the touch pad?

Will it have a badass palm rest or an ugly one?

Is the W3v simply a figment of our collective imagination?

    Etc.

First... thats the W3a in Europe..... it's totally not what we're getting here. That is the design of the barebone model we're getting.... but ours will be more of a white color.... but it's WAY off from what the W3v will be.

    NO NO NO!

He is saying the BAREBONES version (which is coming later) of the W3 will be white. Similar to the W5. As he has been saying all along, the W3V that he is expecting is like the one on the gallery of his website as far as he knows.

I feel bad for you Justin. So much of what you put out here is misinterpreted.

Here is the situation from my point of view. You have ASUS in Taiwan, which is one branch of ASUS, and then you have ASUS USA. These two branches of one company do not have great communication lines (like any large corporation, or bureaucracy, or for example government...look at our problems in the US with sharing information between the CIA and other agencies). Justin updates us as he receives the information, so if the info changes, then he has to update us again. He is not trying to lie to you or mislead you, he is just regurgitating what he hears. Prices change, shipping dates change. That's how business works.

The W3V's are coming. Be patient, it's a virtue.

right, too much information is dangerous... It's one reason all of the barebone models are going to have the designation of the "Z" series...... becasuse they will vary a lot from what Asus will be offering worldwide........ thats going to help, but still.... At least someone is picking up on what I'm saying. Thank you

    Thanks,
    Justin

I just hope by the time w3v actually become available, that it'll be obsolete already, much like the W1N... [ :(] - a great notebook when it was announced/reviewed, but an overpriced mediocre performer when ppl actually got their hands on it.

    cheers,

    yass

Everyone should relax. Remember when the Z71v came out? How many times was that pushed back? Its only a few days late by my count...

That's right what's a few days. According to the Wikipedia:

"Moore's law equates to an average performance improvement in the industry as a whole of over 1% a week. For a manufacturer competing in the cut-throat CPU, hard drive or RAM markets, a new product that is expected to take three years to develop and is just two or three months late is 10 to 15% slower or larger in size than the directly competing products, and is usually unsellable."

So hurry up! My W3V is already 2.56% slower than the market since I preordered it! Do you realize what that will mean for my WoW gaming performance? Me either, but it's fun to think about (or depressing depending on your point of view.) [ :D]

EDIT: Funny. Ha. Ha. Some people are so serious....

If everyone thought like that, we wouldn't buy anything ever.

As long the prices keeps going down, I'm happy. However, I want my W3V by the end of the month. No exceptions.

.... it'll just blow the house down.

If I didn't post the information, everyone would be emailing me.... Considering the amount of people reading the threads....... I'm glad it's posted. But don't worry.... I trust my source at Asus and the only people who could let him down are the people in Taiwan.... so the grapevine is pretty short. The only problem is, Taiwan doesn't care.

Think about it this way..... Asus US ordered and paided for the W3's over a month ago. (this is how the price and spec were supposed to be in concrete)..... IF they just don't "show up".... there is little wiggle room for cancelling the order. Afterall... it's like.. who are the going to get them from then? So Tawain has a TON of power and what does it matter to them if you're pissed off? I doubt very much when I know they don't care when their entire North American office is pissed off..... and they already paid for their stuff.

    Thanks,
    Justin
