    Hello,

i just wanted to know if there isn't any kind of rule/law/convention where we can just exchange the product (in this case a laptop) that was bought within less than 2 weeks and that is presenting issues?

    Best regards

I assumed it was about an Asus, based on your previous posts, so I moved it here.
Site announcements wasn't a good section. If it's not about Asus- please report your post and ask for it to be moved elsewhere.

Would depend on where you live and who you bought it from, it should be mentioned in their warranty what DOA counts as or depending on your local laws what the default must be.

Well it's always the sort of thing to check when buying products because if anything happens it's good to know where you stand and choose the place that will look after you the best.

I'm not sure how universal the policy is, but I know with us, return window for Asus laptops is 15 days. After that, it's unlikely the seller will take it back, albeit a [reluctant] restocking fee.

If you got it from a big box retailer, they may have a bigger window, such as 30 days.

You certainly may be within that window now so contacting your reseller ASAP is a good idea.

yes I talked to them before buying the laptop but only about the warranty-repair procedure...not about these first 2 weeks! I never thought it would give me problems right away.

yeah I've already contacted them and they won't give me a new one without first checking the hardware and software...if it is hardware (which is my worry, cause if it is software i can fix it myself) it has to go to asus and it will be ate least 7 days, and it will then be already out of the DOA (very smart play)

Anyway...I'll just send the laptop to repair during vacations or stuff like that...meanwhile I'll try to fix it myself...
btw, if I format the laptop and/or do some software/firmware modifications, will I loose the warranty?

Maybe you can describe details of the issues. Format the hard drive or anything relate so software won't void the warranty. If the firmware is officially posted on their support page then it won't void the warranty as well.

Typically, accidental damage is inclusive in standard warranty for some models of Asus laptops (I'm still mentioning them because of downloads post here), but not all. Even so, reformatting does not void the warranty, and as GenTech mentioned, an "official" firmware update would not render it void either.

    ok thanks.
Yeah I can describe the problem...(don't know if it is not better to open a new thread but if so i'll do it later).
So the problem is not unknown, but I've never found a solution to it:

-my n56vz is 2 weeks old and since the first day it is doing some kind of on/off popping sound on the speakers. The other problem is that sometimes (randomly and when watching video stream) the pc just freezes/lags for a few seconds and then comes back to normal. It is hard to describe this freezing thing, cause the laptop doesn't crash or completely freezes...instead it 'slows' down like I am having some breaks.

I didn't see this happening while playing, but I do not play a lot as well so...

Thanks in advance for any help.
    Cheers

Is the popping sound a Windows Sound Scheme sound? Or does it sound like defective speakers? The lag/freeze could be a number of things, but if it happens regardless of local use or online content, then it may be Windows related or hard drive related (or both).

the sound is that thing that you use to hear when you turn on or off an external speaker...is not a windows sound scheme sound.
regarding the lag, yes it used to happen online, but yesterday I uninstalled mcafee and some other asus default software and it didn't happen...let's give a few more days
