Does it fix anything or add any useful features (other than supporting a processor we might not even be able to stuff into our notebooks)?

This means the G1s line is being extended again with these new CPUs down the road.

Confirm, Windows XP 64 bit, does not have any problem with PCIE resources conflict with Nvidia driver, running on 4GB memory. I don't have a copy WinXP 32, so it would be interesting to see if it solve the memory conflict too

i've installed only 3gb of ram a few days ago and i had that conflict. I had to disable the pci-x port 3. I can confirm that now it's working fine.

woah interesting!! Penryns in current G1S models?
    If I had a G1S I would drop in a T9500 right now!

I don't see anything about this on the ASUS site nor a list of changes. Where the hell did you get this?

Neither did I, but I did eventually find it. Go to Downloads on the Asus Support/Downloads site then type in G1S, goto BIOS section, and there will be a "BIOS history" that will show on that page. Click it and you'll see the changelog, funny how the bios is not on the page.

Yep, it will fit. There has already been a user on this forum who successfully upgraded a Santa Rosa with the latest Penryn processor. See here

    Holy Huacamole!!!!

But do you think the G1S can dissipate the heat of an X9000?!?!?

I'd better start saving for my X9000!!!! LOL

The Asus G1S is already known for his heat (especially the GPU) I have NO idea if it can take the heat...

    Does anybody know this? :)

    EDIT:
I think the G1S CAN take the heat of a Penryn CPU...
Actually I didn't knew that the CPU in the G1S was upgradeable :D

Penryns are manufactured under the new 45nm process. In other words, they will be cooler, faster, and require less voltage.

The new T8XXX series require only 25W TDP
and the T9XXX series require 35W TDP

Definately lower for the T8XXX series the current Merom processors which run at 34W TDP.

This may be a stupid question but I do ask it :p:
Does upgrading the CPU in the G1S void warranty ??
(I know upgrading memory, hard drive does NOT void warranty. But what about the CPU...?)

Yes, it will void the Asus Ensemble warranty.

Yes, I suppose it will support Penryn processors in the T series which will still be Dual Core.... But the X series (which are Quad Cores) will generate so much heat because they will still be 35W on the first X series of Mobile Penryn.

    Happy New Year!

This means the G1S would be able to take the X9000 heat? since u said it would be cooler.

Sorry but X9XXX series does not mean Quad Core, it's just the "Extreme Edition" ofthe Dual Core Penryn

I don't see why not. But don't quote me on it, we don't know until someone tries it. Besides, any one sane at this moment won't buy the X9000 for $850.

Given the 45nm process, upscale of processor speed(this increases heat), and less voltage not sure if this would equate to a lower or equal temperature. I would assume that the G1S would be able to handle a Penryn X9000, less than or equal to a T7700 or X7800 in terms of heat. Of course this is based on theory and needs to be confirmed.
