    Hi,
I have an Asus C90s, where I just replaced the Nvidia 8600m GT with an ATI Mobility HD3650.

But when I use the ATI card, the computer turns on as is should, but then the screen goes black after 10 seconds (even if I try going to BIOS settings ect.).

My bios version should be the newest (1002) - but the date of the installed BIOS and the BIOS on Asus's website is different - is it still the same bios then?

Well, does anybody know what I can do about this? Or have I just bought a broken card (yes - I DID use thermal grease! :- ).

    Thanks in advance

You could also have a thermal issue here, or a power one!
Have you checked if the GPU fans starts to spin when you turn on the laptop?

Sounds like a thermal issue to me. Same thing happened to me once when i tried running the 5870 in my D900F before modifying the heatsink (just to see if the Bios would even support it and i had just enough time to see it did before the thermal protection kicked in and the screen went blank).
If you are using the same heatsink its most likely the new GPU isnt cooled properly (doesnt have proper contact) and is overheating. GPUs have different placements and heights of coils and chips so the heatsink might not be a good fit for the new GPU. Or if you have a proper heatsink you just might have pasted or seated it improperly.

    Hey Chipbubble,

    Congratulations for this replacement!

The problem was described precisely from HellCry. I’m fully agreed with him and the solution is not difficult. It’s requiring some time and careful actions.

If you see the POST screen or Asus logo then your card is OK.

There is a dedicated thread to C90S & ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.

Here you go “ C90S Unleashed”.

Thank You very much! :) I'm happy that the card is okay.

Actually, I read your whole article, Angel, but for some reason, I guess I was too lazy to even consider to make my own heatzink :p .. But I'll give it a try!
