Hello. I have a laptop model ASUS X59GL-AP197C with 250 GB hard drive/motherboard model F5GL/. But I decided to replace it with a larger volume / 500, 640, 750 or 1000 GB /. I am interested what is the maximum amount of hard drive that I can use with this model.

Any 9.5mm high drive should work, it is possible a 12.5mm would fit too, but I am not 100% sure. The capacity does not matter. Just make sure it is SATA II or III (3 Gbps or 6 Gbps). There are a couple of 1TB 9.5mm drives out now, if you can't fit a 12.5mm. If you look up the model and part number of your existing hard drive, you can find its specs to see its height.

Then you know you can use any 9.5mm sata II or III drive.

If there is more space in the chassis above and below the drive, you may be able to fit a 12.5.

I am more worried about whether they will recognize it as a capacity. Not so much the height of the device. Are you sure you motherboard will support up to 1TB hard drive?
