Hey everybody, I'm going to be picking up the Logitech Z-5500's (as pictured) from my buddy and I was just wondering what kind of external soundcard I'll need to support them. They're 5.1 surround sound.

Which Asus notebook do you have?

Ontop of that you does the Z-5500 take optical in? If so, then all you need is a cable that looks like this. Then enable digital output on the sound control panel.

Get yourself a 3.5mm -> toslink cable. Then plug the 3.5mm jack into your laptop audio out and then the toslink adapter into the Z-5500 control centre. After that enable digital out and you should be good to go.

I work at The Source by Circuit City.. I hope we have that..

is it just an adapter or is it a full cable?

would I use the standard 3.5 audio out or the SPDIF?

I think you need to use the dual SPDIF/headphones socket. That's where you plug the adapter. But I'm not sure, never used digital out.
