V1S
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=24&l3=330&l4=0&model=1780&modelmenu=1
The V1S and V2s have Esata and HDMI
-
-
Now I can only hope that V2S will be sold in Indonesia...
-
Not bad at all. Very interested to see the first reviews of the V1S and whether or not the minor flex and battery issues have been resolved.
-
I wonder if this means we'll see more pre-order information from the major e-tailers...now that it's more than a solid rumor.
-
Only a review will tell for sure though. -
How is this full specs? I don't see specs anywhere...
-

Now they just need to upgrade the docking station with a couple of fans/grill ala Zalman-style and it'll be set!
-
No LEDs...........
-
Still, the HDMI and eSata are nice. -
Very, I wasnt expecting LED backlighting. Shame they didnt post wether or not the GPU was DDR2 or 3
-
They don't seem to be on the US or UK sites yet. It might be that they're trying to get them out globally at similar times.
No info about the type of VRAM either (but still very very likely to be DDR2).
It lists the following optical drives:
Also, what exactly is LED lighting? Some kind of superior back-lighting? -
LED lighting is used in the Macbook Pros and the U1 and U3 from Asus. Basically it provides more consistent and even lighting and saves battery life when compared to regular LCDs.
-
LED backlighting, compared to standard CCFL backlighting, is thinner, brighter and uses less power, or so it's been advertised. So far, the thinness and brightness factor have been confirmed, the power factor not really.
-
Awws... No one gave me rep for finding this... Didnt get any when I discovered the F3SV or F3E
-
got a few questions....i have a w3v right now with an external hard drive (the dockin thing which u can switch with the CD drive) will that fit into the v1s??? also, how much difference will there be between DDR2 and DDR3? (g1vs. v1) and....i noticed that some thin notebooks dont have as good of cooling as thicker ones like the g1s....i know my w3 gets pretty hot! u think thatll happen to the v1?
-
What connection is that HD? PATA or SATA?
-
No idea with heating, The DDR3 version performs between 20 and 40% better, But thats for the 256mb version, No idea on 512. I dont think the modular bays are swappable but their only 28$ so its no huge loss.
-
Quick question on V1S modular bays:
Is this an extra bay? (i.e. on top of the HDD and optical drive?) I must admit, some of the features of the V1S are starting to tempt me towards it and away from the V2S :O. But I do want more some portability... But the V1S is out sooner... Oh, decisions, decisions... -
Extra bay?
Well, the default V1s will include(rather, should):
Optical Drive
Empty Travelers Bay
Options to buy:
HD Bay
Battery Bay -
the modular bay is where the optical drive goes. you can take out the optical drive and swap in an extra battery.
-
NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT ,External 512 VRAM
Whats that mean? Its hypercache is 512? -
no, the dedcated VRAM is 512 w/ turbocache up to 1GB (not sure about the 1GB part).
-
how much is this going to cost me?
-
In the US, ExcaliberPC are taking preorders:
V1S: http://www.excaliberpc.com/ASUS_V1S-A1_Intel_Core_2_Duo_T7500/partinfo-id-580877.html
V2S: http://www.excaliberpc.com/Asus_V2S-A1_Intel_Core_2_Duo_T7500/partinfo-id-580882.html
In the UK, we have a possible price for the V1S at:
http://www.nexus13.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=188
Anywhere else? There are a few european countries with retailers. Google around.
-
The bay for the optical drive does not equal the empty travelers bay? -
-
. What's even nicer is that the V1S is lighter than the average notebook of its size (as with the V2S).
-
Brilliant! I've was about to go for G1S because of the esata, but thought I should wait to see the specs for V1S first.
Guess it's the V1S for me tehn =D
BTW, the specs on the V1S says 24X DVD-Dual-Double Layer. Thats damn nice!
Also, the V2S specs states "3G/3.5G Antenna support(Optional)". Is the UMTS it self optional, or just an external antenna? -
It can have 3.5g support, so there will be two models, one with and one without.
-
i want it, can someone buy it for me?
-
After looking around a bit more, I retract may statement about the V[1|2]S being lighter than laptops of their range. The weights actually seem to the same as the average.
V1S = 2.7Kg
Compal FL90 = 2.7Kg
V2S = 2.3Kg
Zepto 6224W = 2.3Kg -
Ehh... guys...
Optical Drive:
24X DVD-Dual-Double Layer
8X DVD-Dual Light Scribe
HD DVD
Support Module HOT Swap Function and 2nd HDD/Batt.
HD DVD? -

I want the V2S or the F8SV to come out soon, I;m itching to get it. I was all set for the F3SV but then this popped up. Sucks that its ETA is late August early september...
-
PC village just repply to my mail on the v1s and the g1s-a2...here's the info:
-
Yea, it's one of those cross-your-fingers and hope for the best kind of things if you need one for the beginning of school.
-
Oh, Asus, why couldn't you put DDR3 in that V1S? I guess it's back to MBP and T61p considerations.
-
At any rate, even if it is, what makes you think a Quadro FX 570M will out-perform in real gaming fps? -
In real world gaming tests, there is probably little to no difference (maybe 1fps at max) between the DDR2 and GDDR3 variants of the 8600GT. It really isn't as big a deal as people are making it out to be; not really worth fussing about it.
And for your other choices, the ThinkPad sucks for gaming (its got a workstation graphics card), and for the MBP, I would rather have the 4x the VRAM + $100 (or 2x the VRAM + $600 if you go for the higher end MBP) - nothing against the MBP, but it doesn't make sense either economically or gaming-wise. -
I haven't used the V2 myself, but here's the review of it:
Speaking of heating - any pics of the new V's or anyone know if they finally fixed that right-side heating vent?
EDIT: yea ignore this post. It was in response to another thread that was also asking about the V2s/MBP and I just got my posts mixed up -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=147708
The difference in frame rates is quite high, 28-38% -
The V1S now appears on the UK site too:
http://uk.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1780&l1=5&l2=24&l3=330&l4=0
Nothing about the V2S, however... -
the v2s might take awhile to appear as they are going to be released later.

I like this V1s but i see that is a little more big than G1s, inst true?
V1s:
14.3" x 10.4" x 1~1.4"
G1s:
13.9" x 11.2" x 1.5"
so V1s is more large but less depth... i think is better a notebook smallest in width, or not? -
V1S: 208.21 (and this is an over-estimate, since I assumed that the width is 1.4" across the whole laptop)
G1S: 233.52
So I guess you could say the V1S is 'smaller'. It's just that its width is a little more than the G1S's.
Dunno about width. It's probably based on personal preference. Maybe a longer laptop may have more spaced out keys. Personally, I don't 0.4" is much of a difference, especially given the overall size of the V1S.
