Now, add in the fact that DDR3 is more power efficient, and if you look at new HP8510W review on the front page, that workstation card is faster then 8600GT DDR3. Oh, decisions, decisions.... been bouncing between MBP and Thinkpad, saw the V1S and thought yeah, this will work, and of course it won't. All I want is MBP design and specs, for a few $$$ less and without Apple drivers issues with Windows or Linux or QA issues, is that too much to ask? :D

Hrm, well offhand, I'd say Lenovo has worse QC issues than Apple :p

Why not just get the 8510W then...you can bear to sacrifice some style for function :D

Umm... price :). I am unwilling to pay $2800+ for that setup with only 2GB of RAM and 120GB drive, I think that's too much for what one is getting with 8510w. Thinkpad has similar specs and costs a lot less. Frankly I would have just gotten Apple, but all the threads on issues with the screen, overheating and kernel panics scare me.

Btw, Lenovo QC and shipping issue is another reason I am in a quandary. It's quite ridiculous that $2000-2500 machines come with QC and Customer Service problems. Whether it's Apple or Lenovo, it is simply unacceptable. One good thing about Dell or HP is if you purchase their business products, usually support is decent, especially if you spring for gold support (or HP equivalent thereof).

So, I am just going to wait and see what happens toward end of August/beginning of September. Maybe Lenovo will have their shipping/QC stuff figured out by then or Apple decides that it's time not to smother their internal components with thermal paste and yellow screens are indeed bad.

Are the touchpad buttons actual buttons? It looks like the vx2 is one big touchpad where the buttons are just areas of the TP. Is this correct?

do you guys think its worth it to upgrade the hard drive to a 7200RPM for about 130 Canadian? I know that it has the 5400RPM, would that be enough? And its got the turbo memory, although i've heard that it doens't really do much

TurboMemory appears to be largely useless right now, although it may improve with better Vista support/drivers. For the drive, what size drive are we talking about here, 120GB or 160GB? If it's 120GB, I would consider buying the drive separately and installing yourself, since you get to keep the existing drive.

in all cases i'd just buy a separate drive instead of just upgrading from the reseller that way you have a back up just in case =]

well im talking about the V2S for when it comes out. it comes with the 160GB but I only need about the 120GB so I was thinking of getting the 7200 RPM Seagate momentus, it works for the F3 so it should for the V2S as well. I don't know what to do with that extra 160GB HDD cuase I don't have an ebay account, maybe i'll go to futureshop or some old computer store and sell it. What would be the estimated value of the original HDD.
    Just doing some planning :)

F8 has 8600GT while V2S has 8600GS. V2S is much better built since it's ASUS's business line of notebooks.

It has not been confirmed DDR2 yet, We wont know until its released. And the HP workstation card while as powerful as the 8600GT it is not optimised for gaming and probally wont give you very good performance as thats not what its designed for.

Well, I've decided to go with the V2S since I've decided against the Compal IFT00 and the Lenovo T61. Oh, and the Dell 1420, but only because I'd probably have myself committed (if my friends don't beat me to it) if I purchased a Dell machine ^^

So I suppose there's no official release date out? You guys don't call Asus and harass them the way Lenovo users harass Lenovo reps? Ha.

You could get a 2.5" hard drive enclosure and use it as an external HDD :).

Anyone know if we can expect HDMI 1.3? Or is it so that the HDMI-version can be software-updated?
