Decent lappy.. If only it came with a x1600 instead of the Geforce 7400.. then I wouldn't be waiting (like everyone else) for the W3J... *sigh* Such wasted potential.

I personally think the X1600 is an overkill. The Go 7400 is a pretty decent gpu which doesnt heat up like the X1600. But i'm really not much a gamer and the Go 7400 satisfies my most basic needs (GTA:San Andreas) and i couldnt wait another month for the W3J. That's why i went for the V6J =)

To be honest, I think for me the X1600 would be overkill as well ^^ But at the rate I buy lappys (only bought one --a vaio for its looks --and that was around seven years ago) I want one that is somewhat future proof.

Actually still seriously considering an XPS M170 so if I were to make a drop from the Geforce 7800, I'd want it to be preferably an x1600 or a x700 at the very least... But to each their own.. I may just get a V6Va since you mentioned the new Asus models don't come with PC card slots...

.... future-proofing is such a wasted phrase in this industry. It's impossible to do so, because next year there's going to be something better and with a graphics card you might get a couple more games out of it than another card... but it's not going to keep ahead of everything else.

Now, since the x1600 wasn't used in the V6j because of heat issues....... can you honestly tell me that the extra heat that you'd be dealing with on a constant basis would be worth the hour a week a normal person may actually get time to game? I personally don't believe it belongs in the W3j, but apparnetly the thickness difference was enough to properly cool the system. The V6, with it's regular ratio display is a "professional" system... it's not a gaming rig... not a hardcore workstation... but it certainly borders on it and a lot of those type if people have been interested in or have bought one...... but just because they have doesn't change what the system is meant to be.... and for what it was designed to be, heck, even the 64mb x600 from last year is borderline overkill.

... the 256mb x1600 is overkill for the W2j and yet it's going to make that unit that much more attractive to gamers and people who consider higher-end graphics a way of "future-proofing" their investment........ but in reality, going more middle of the line in spec and configuration is probably the best way to future-proof your pocket. Ok... consider someone who wants to max out a system... say they get it maxed out at around 3 grand.... they think they've got to keep that for 4-5 years and be happy with it till they can afford a new one. Considering spending 1,500-2,000 and getting a system for a more logical period of time... like 3 years.... If you try to think more than 2-3 years down the road you're going to be very off in terms of what you think will get you through and what you're really going to need at that point in time.

Hey Proportable when can we pre-order the W3J? Also Will it ever sport anything higher than the 1.6mhz duo?

The preorder dates are on the proportable site and most likely the sticky. As of right now its only has the 1.6 processor. You can configure it with a different vender but that would void the international warranty. Im sure Asus will upgrade the W3J to a 1.8 processor at the end of summer/fall of this year.

Right now there is a tenative date for the W3j and W2j pre-order....... but considering the W3j physically doesn't even have a mass production date, it's too early to tell if we'll push that back or not. The W2j will open on the 13th, but that's only because we'll likely get word that production has started prior to that date.

In terms of Asus putting in a faster cpu, it'll come likely 3 weeks after the first price drop, when the next shipment of systems comes in....... all of that is speculation based on previous years experience.

What do you mean Void the international warranty? I see the W3J on other sites with 1.8 duo is it just the USA that gets the shaft?

If I could get a 14" with 2.0 Duo and top end graphic card I would be in heaven. This will be my first notebook so I am really excited!

The W3J is like 93% for me for my notebook wants. I do Lightwave 3D work so while the 1.6 is duo is good the 2.0 would benefit my 3D work immensely. I have done much research and the 14" is the perfect size for me. I love gaming and would love a top end card for my gaming breaks from 3D. I would probbly buy right now if I could find a 14" 2.0 Duo 1 Gig ram 677 and a top end gameing card.

Its kind of hard being where I am atm. On the edge of the Duo's filtering into the market and really being able to benefit in my 3D program with a Duo, I need one. So I am probably just going to get the W3J from your site using those nice little benefits you so graciously give to members.

I wish the Notebook bug bit me like 3-4 months from now. That way I could get exactly what I need and want! The notebook bug is poisonous and after he bit me I was poisoned! Now I will die unless I get the perfect notebook (or close)!

I'm assuming that Asus wouldn't design an ensemble laptop with a GPU that runs too hot when gaming. Any ideads how they have worked around this issue? Do we know the speed at which the X1600 runs in the W3J? If it's downclocked significantly, the question is will it be work getting.

The W3j here will have the 1.66, but if everything was spec'd at max, heat would become a major issue.

jtom meant that certain dealers will rip apart an ASUS ENSEMBLE unit, and configure it at your will for a price, and you will lose the 1 year international warranty, and they will warranty it for you.
