Well I've read the reviews on these laptops and they seem very good.
The obvious difference is the screen size, but I want a laptop for casual gaming when I'm away and for sufing the net and possibly watching the odd movie. I would probably only be taking the laptop on the road a few times a year.
I'd like to eventually have it replace my desktop computer, which has an AMD XP2400+ CPU with 750 MB of RAM.
Which on do you think would be best for me?
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Both will accomodate your listed needs equally well.
It's really down to the screen size and any price difference, and the fact that 15 is comparatively more portable than 17. You're not really going to be able to use either effectively in coach class on a plane. -
I don't plan on using it on the plane.
-
They both have Fingerprint, TV Tuner, 2.0 MP Webcam and Blu-Ray drive, correct?
-
i always like a smaller lappy i say m50
-
I'd say if you planned on moving the laptop around at all you're better off going for the 15 inch variant. In my opinion, the 15 is a great mix of portability versus overall screen size. You can still have the 15 inch in your lap, whereas I think it'd be tough to work with a 17 inch in your lap.
I just got an M50VM-A1 yesterday and I don't think it's particularly small by any means. It's actually a little bigger than I was expecting, but not in a bad way.
Just giving you another opinion. 17 inchers are boats. I'd suggest going to a local electronics store and just looking at 17 inch laptops to get a feel for what you'd be getting. -
To add one thing, either of these computers is going to be much faster than your current desktop.
-
I would of thought it would be faster than my current machine, which is about 7yrs old now.
What about the:
ASUS G50V-A1 Core 2 T9400 4GB 500G 15.4IN WSXGA+GEFORCE 9700M GT 512MB -
Also a good computer, but it's a gaming machine so its looks will not appeal to everybody. The M50 and M70 are more subdued in their looks. It all depends on your personal preferences, really.
-
1) blu-ray (but you will not be able to take advantage of it on the notebook because the B1 screen is 1440x900)
2) subwoofer
3) 512MB VRAM DDR2 (while the M50VM has 1GB VRAM DDR2 - not that it matters since today's games don't come close to making use of that much memory).
The M70VM comes standard with an 8-cell battery while the M50VM comes standdard with a 6-cell battery.
The M50VM has a light sensor that the M70VM is not listed as having in the spec sheet.
The M70VM is listed as having ports for:
1 x TV Out (S-Video composite)
1 x CIR for remote controller
1 x E-SATA
1 x TV Antenna Input
(which are not listed on the M50VM specs)
The M50VM is listed as having a ASUS 3G Watcher utility while the M70VM is listed as having a Virtual Camera utility.
Aside from the above mentioned items (plus the 17" vs 15" screens and 2lbs weight difference) the M70VM-B1 and M50VM-B1 should be the same.
(The M70Vm-C1 and M70Vm-C2 are the 17" systems that come with 1920x1200 and can display HD content properly, and dual hard drives. If you decide on a M70Vm I recommend getting either the C1 or C2 as the others don't have worthwhile resolution/blu-ray drive combinations).
Someone at Asus in his/her infinite wisdomdecided to cancel the M50VM-B3 which was the only M50VM with the Blu-ray, TV tuner, and remote control option. (and would have been my preferred system among the M50VM)
(The M70Vm-B1 and M50Vm-B4 come with Blu-ray drives, but you don't have the option of the internal TV tuner and media remote with those systems. In addition both the M70VM-B1 and M50VM-B4 are handicapped to 1440 x 900 resolution which will not make use of the blu-ray drive's image quality).
Both the M70VM's and M50VM's have fingerprint readers, and 1.3MP (not 2.0) webcams. -
Isn't there a perfect laptop out there? What's up with that? That B3 was the one I saw at Newegg a few weeks ago that it's going to be available in Sept 1 or something. I was like, "Wow...this is it. This is the laptop I want." But now, it's not even listed (not even as Out of Stock) at Newegg anymore. That's what happened to it, that makes sense why it's not listed anymore. Ahh...dang it...
