Clearly, the X1A and X2A are of most interest here as both offer the higher resolution screens for which we've been asking. IMO, they are very reasonably priced.
The X1A has my name on it.

Hrm... bing cashback

wow, the Best Buy G50vt-X1 case styling makes a comeback. is that right??
Also, they put in a Q9000 in one of them, interesting.
These have the 1 year ADP's as opposed to the BB versions.
1920x1080 resolution on a 15.6" is an unorthodox choice. Funny how BB res. is on the very low end, and newegg's are on the very high end. -

Definitely NOT digging the BB lightning bolt lid...
If I can't obscure the bolts (paint/permanent marker the lid?), I may have to look elsewhere.
A laptop that looks like the hood of a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am in the law library = humiliation -
http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=61&l3=1065&l4=0&model=3092&modelmenu=2
They include the normal ASUS 2year warranty with 1year ADP. Also they are eligable for the free Win7 upgrade.
Also these include Bluetooth which the BB model does not. Also take note the 1920x1080 screens are also LED backlight.
Also the back panel lightning is not that bad (to me). I personally do not like the silver accents on the side and front as opposed to the all matte black of the other G51 models. -
hmmm X1A looks real nice ...lol
-
Interestingly if I put one in my cart and try to check out it won't let me
-
So I take it you have decided on an X1A? -
No, I was just curious honestly. It's a good price but man 1920x1080 on a 15" screen must be tiny!
-
Yeah but I am sure you can roll back the resolution to another 16:9 compatible resolution.
Its actually pretty nice considering what you get for the price. -
Yep. Makes me reconsider the Sager I was looking at. I wonder if they will get the new G71 varients as well...
-
You know, I would've kinda be regretful about getting the Best Buy version instead of the G51VX-X1A if the Newegg versions have the white lid.
Even though the lights yell out gamer on the BB version, its lid is much more subdued than the whole blue lightning theme all the other models got going on.
Seriously, if Best Buy didn't have that exclusive lid, I bet alot more people would be buying the other versions. -

The state is giving us a tax-free holiday that runs from midnight to Sunday, but it only permits laptop $1500.00 and under. -
Considering that I did not have the best luck with the first G50vt-X5 refurb, and that I don't want anything to happen to my purchase after 3 months.. I went and ordered the G50VX-X1A. Didn't want to pay over $1k but I figured that the processor and screen are more future-proofed. I like the longer warranty too.
The cover is quite gaudy but I think I'll get over it. I was fine with the X5's cover so I'll be ok with this one.
Madpoet, where did it not let you go past? I was able to go through completely. -
Like someone mentioned before is a 1920x1080 resolution too much for a 15.6?

Thats a good question on the high resolution; I would probably be happier with the Sager NP8662's 1680x1050, but the price is +$1500 when you figure in 4gigs ram, 7200rpm hdd, and Windows. I'll probably just resize the windows icons and roll with it.
Edit: rolling back resolution on the games.. depends on the game. I understand that alot of times the performance gets worse because you're out of the native resolution. I'll give it a shot and report my findings. -
Anyone know what interface the G51 uses? Wonder if this would work?

Looks like Bing's 2.5% cashback came through.
$1349.99 + Three day shipping = $1,367.22
$1,367.22 - $33.75 Cash Back = $1,333.47
Ok so not a terribly higher cost over what I was about to pay for at Best Buy.
$1,050(with tax) + Warranties + Bluetooth + Screen + Processor = $1,333.47? -

Its funny that the G50vt-X6 is selling for more than X1A and is the same price as the X2A.
Guess we better get those X6's while they're hot. -
Looks like even Amazon has one of the A1 models:

I think it was about time Newegg got the G51s. Werent they suppose to come out by mid July or 3rd week of July ?
-
The X1A pics from newegg also have silver trim on the side of the whole laptop but the A1 from gentechpc have black trim. I would love that silver trim
hope the A1 will get silver trim too.

Hey Jebobek, what did you search to get 2.5%?
*edit* Nevermind, found it -
Go to bing.com
click on shopping
In that page, search for newegg.
Click on the first thing that pops up (for me it was some solar-powered key chain)
Then click on the newegg link (underneath "seller name").
It should give you a special page to provide your windows live address ("namehere"@hotmail.com).
I noticed that through newegg its really hard to tell if you're getting the bing deal. But if the first bing screen tells you that you're going to save 2.5% during your visit, you can trust it.
Keep that browser open, then search for the asus laptops.
Didn't see any "bing cashback" symbols while I was checking out. I waited like 15 minutes after buying the laptop and sure enough it went through. -
Thanks. I bit the bullet and ordered the X1A. I had a reality check this morning and realized that as much as I wanted that $2400 Sager, I didn't NEED that $2400 Sager.
-
I just ordered my x1a from newegg. Don't see the extra cache and speed as THAT important.
I honestly prefer the blue over the white lid myself, so to me its a win win. The only thing I wish is that it had the blu-ray player, but I'll get over that and probably upgrade that down the line. -
OEM blu ray players are ~$90 shipped from Ebay (some even cheaper). It's supposed to be an easy upgrade.
-
The X1A looks like the best deal by far. I may have to order that one and find some way to switch the bezel of the X1A with the Bezel of the BB model, long as i can keep the cost under $100 or so.
-
Its true that you can get G50/G51 Bezels for sale, although I think the last time I saw someone link it they were the same blue lightning models.
Maybe you could find an "AS IS" G50 on ebay for a bezel you prefer.
(Edit) That is, as long as the G50's do match up with G51's.. -
Interesting, I didn't think that you could interchange the G50 with the G51 bezel. Do you know if the bezel comes with the webcam built in, or if its a seperate part? I do like the G51 Best Buy bezel, but if the G50 bezels fit on the G51, it would give me more choice...

No, you swap out the existing internal SATA drive. Or you could get an esata enclosure if you really wanted one.

What I find particularly dirty is that the G50vt-X6 is the same price as the G51vx-2XA.

(Well, that was enough to make me double-check my order.)
Not sure why it skyrocketed, perhaps because Asus no longer held any price limitation on them. Or maybe because people are simply still buying it for one reason or another.
My package has been shipped so I should be seeing it monday or tuesday. -

a quick question b4 i g2g sleep (wake up at 6 to get Social security #...new to america...) can someone give me a quick rundown of differences between Excaliber's A1 and newegg's X1A. I got a few in my mind but hoping some ppl can point out some that i mite have missed like i did with the bluetooth
and i do believe it comes with 2yr standard warranty altho all it says is 1yr accidental at the bottom? -
Alright...so I decided to stick with the Best Buy G51...The smaller res screen isn't going to be quite as nice, but it's almost impossible to tell the difference in game on that small a screen, and it will still kill my performance non-the-less...The only advantage to it would be on the desktop screen, and scaling down the res in game would make it look not nearly as clean.
The white lid is SO much more attractive.
And the processor cut hurts, but when intel comes out with their next-gen processors and the price of, say, the qx9300 drops down, then by next semester I should be able to afford it.
Otherwise, right now, with my employee discounts on tax free weekend, for the same price as the newegg G51 with the p8700, I could get accidental protection for two years, a razer mamba wireless mouse, and a logitech g35 7.1 gaming headset.
That, and I get a replacement battery and ac adapter next year...
God damn its a hard choice looking at all these nice laptops, but I think I've just got a case of "get ready to buy the really nice shiny object, and then see the more expensive and shinier object next to it and drool over it, but if I never saw it I'd be perfectly happy with my still very nice shiny object......"

Even if the mobo has been revised, they use the same form factor, so I have to think the internal lay out and cooling are the same. -
And newegg canada?
Edit: Nevermind, its avalaible at Newegg Canada -
Would it be easy to change the GPU for a ATI FireGL or a nVIDIA Quadro FX?
Newegg now offering G51VX-X1A; X2A; A1
