    Hi people,

I've been struggling to get my Asus S96S to work properly.

The backlight has gone out and I can barely see an image on my LCD screen (with the help of external light). I'm guessing the backlights went out on my LCD. I've read around the forums and people usually say that the inverter is the main problem. but i've already tried replacing the inverter with a brand new one and nothing happens.

So i was wondering if there's any way to fix or replace the backlights for the S96S..

The only thing I found useful on these forums is:
    forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=187005&highlight=backlight

    thanks.

My S96S is 1 year and 3 months old...

Also, is there a way to boot my laptop and be able see the bios settings on an external LCD? since I can't see a thing when it boots up..

The problem is not backlight, it's the inverter board needs to be repalce:

F3 and Z96/S96 all uses the same inverter board:

If your external monitor not showing anything then it could be bad video card, or you can try FN+F7 or F8 to switch to external monitor.

I bought that inverter and its sitting on my desk. I've tried plugging in the old and new inverter and nothing happens.

I have no idea what your saying... are you telling me to try out the lcd on another laptop?

andyasselin, I must confess I find your posts difficult to understand as well. :) You could try to be clearer, more precise, and more detailed.

It then becomes more likely that the backlight has gone...

It could also be the inverter cable or connectors.
