I bought an ASUS notebook, R510LB (X550LB motherboard) a year ago. It's runing now WIN10 (on the HDD it came with) and everything works fine. I't came with FreeDOS.

Month ago, I've bought a new SDD for the laptop - Intel 535 (240gb). Iv'e replaced the HDD with the new SSD - but the only OS intaller to detect the SSD is Windows 7.

Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15.04 installers don't detect the SSD.. Even though it appears on the BIOS.

The problem is not the SSD - Iv'e tried to connect it to another PC and WIN10 installer recognizes it there. Iv'e also update the SSD firmware to the lastest, and tried to format it both to MBR & GPT. Nothing works..

I'm sure the problem is in the laptop's BIOS - because I've noticed that there is no CSM/Secure Boot/UEFI options there... I tried to update the BIOS to the last version (403) and still these options are missing.. All the other options in the BIOS didn't solve the issue..

There is any way I can solve this issue and install WIN10 on the SSD with this laptop?

Uh... hm.. ok... so you have some way to boot the install disc for windows. But the installer doesn't detect the ssd? Nevertheless the bios will notice the device id of the ssd (and another pc will detect the disk and be able to write on it as well). But any OS install routine on this particular asus fails to see the ssd.

I suppose it's worth pointing out that it doesn't really matter if the bios is set up to allow secure boot or even have a uefi boots. The install will simply default to mbr-mode and so on. And in any case that won't affect whether or not the disk can be wiped and formatted.

So... if I got this right - I have literally no idea what might be wrong.

How are you booting the installation media?

Getting into the BIOS, and choosing the USB/DISC installation media from the list.
Sometimes they appear in two forms - "UEFI" and regular (legacy I guess..). I tried both and none of the installations detect the SSD..

    Two options:
    1. Pre-format the SSD on a working PC, then move it back into this NB and have OS installation goes through afterwards. (Easiest)
    2. Use Shift + F10 while in the windows installation windows, this will bring up command prompt. Type diskpart [Enter] to bring up the utility, your SSD should be disk 0 so you will need to select the disk 0 and perform a "clean" command to wipe, then "cre par pri" command to create a partition. Then proceed with OS installation from there. (Hardest)

    Update:
I successfully was able to "unhide" the options in the BIOS with some AMI tools. Now I have the CSM (&CSM Parameters), Secure Boot and Fastboot options in BIOS. But still - WIN10 installer and Ubuntu 15.04 installer (including GParted) don't detect the SSD. I tried almost every possible combination of BIOS options state, and still the issue appears. I'm at a loss.. even ASUS support can't help me.

Perhaps if you install windows 7 and upgrade to 10?

Intel 530/535 SSD Series Firmware Update Tool 2.0.14:
Seems spot on, no? You've probably updated to v2.0.14 already, but it's up to you to disable 'DevSleep' during the flash process. Presumably because it doesn't affect all systems and you loose some power savings when doing so.
