Is it normal for the red light to be on in the audio S/PDIF headphone out jack?

Mine has never lit up since I purchased in 11/07

I can’t get the realtek high definition digital audio working S/PDIF. No red light.

Headphones work fine when plugged in.

I have a mini toslink to toslink adapter when i plug it in there is no light.

My turtle beach usb adio advantage micro does light up red at the S/PDIF jack and works when inserted to the USB with no problems.

When I use the HDMI and change to realtek digital output the sound works through HDMI cable

I’m using the driver from the ASUS support site 6.0.1.5449

    Thanks
