Hi guys, I have been reading yours comments and the models look nice. Just there is one thing missing, can anybody write a link to any shop, where you can buy these master pieces?

Aesthetically the G71GX is better, however when it comes to games,
which is better? I'm kinda stuck between the two, the latter is
cheaper, but the former seems to provide better performance?
Will the P8700 out perform a Q9000 when it comes to gaming
(I'm talking about the latest games like BFBC2)?

The G71GX & the G72 are exactly the same PC spec wise. The only difference would be that the G71GX has a 1400 x 900 and the G72 has a 1600 x 900 resolution. Because of the lower res on the G71 the performance is better on the G71 by a few frames per sec on it's native res as compared to the G72's native res. As far as BF:BC2 is concerned EA released a patch that is required to play that optimizes gameplay for Core 2 Duo. I play at max settings on 4XAA & 4XAntiscopic with absolutely no slow down. It plays and looks fantastic :)

Here's a few links on specs:

    http://review.zdnet.com/product/laptops/asus-g72gx-rbbx05-core-2-duo-p8700-253-ghz-173-tft/33938009

    http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/...a/894136-new-client-r3-out-now-changelog.html.

I know this may seem sensational, but with that patch I can run everything at max including AA & AF. Which makes sense because Crysis runs almost maxed out at 2X AA and looks on par with certain parts on the BF:BC2 campaign. I don't care what anyone says, the Heart of Darkness campaign is BEAUTIFUL on a P8700 C2D, GTX260M. At times I kept saying to myself OMG.....I can't believe that my G71 can handle this game with ease. I also have my GPU overclocked to 550/950/1375. My CPU is set at default High Performance mode and I'm on 195.62 Nvidia drivers with Nvidia tools controlling V-sync & tripple buffering. Even though I can run everything maxed out including AA & AF I run them at 4XX and with shadows set to low because my fan starts blasting at anything over 4XX and I dont really care about shadows. My G71GX GPU never breaks 76 degrees.

I recently purchased a G73JH-X1 from Newegg because I was afraid that my G71 would not be able to handle BF:BC2 at max and 2X AA. I'm not really happy with the way the G73 looks physically. Most of my non-tech savy friends think it looks understated and that my G71 looks like it will crush the G73...lol. At the time of purchase I had alot of extra funds because of my tax return but now I'm in the process of selling my G73JH for 1550.00 to my best buddy when he gets payed this Friday with no regrets.

By the time I feel the need to buy another PC, Asus will have something better than the G73 preferably with a better Nvidia GPU than a ATI 5870. I don't really trust ATI even though Nvidia re-badges old stuff and sells it as new. I'd also like to have a Blu-ray writer installed when the time comes.

The P8700 and above C2D definitely have some life left in them.

Have you tried BFBC2 with your G73, how does your G71 fare with it?
Why do i see in some laptops in other forums with similar specs can only run
    it on medium(G51GX-RXO5, Sager++++)?

Can this laptop fit two hard drives?

BF:BC2 plays perfect at my previous posts settings....planes, helis etc...
It's true that my G73 that I sold yesterday can play everything at 16XAA & AF at 1920 but it wasn't worth it to me. I'm fine with 1400 for now.

Why do I see in some laptops in other forums with similar specs can only run
    it on medium(G51GX-RXO5, Sager++++)?

I have no idea. I run everything on high with a smooth FPS in fraps Pro. It must be that patch that addressed this. All those posts I read had me worried too. But all is well :)

I play at those settings. I recently cranked up the shadows to high. It runs atleast at 45 fps. That video looks exactly like mine running BF:BC2.

Wow, that smooth??? I'm a bit skeptical, If you may post a video of
your G71GX playing BFBC2 online(in a chopper and jet), you will really help me
never doubt my purchase. Thanks! =)

hmm....maybe I'll try and find the time to do that. I've never posted a video online before. What is the easiest way to capture video at the best quality? So I can show you. Let me know asap!! Because after 3/9/10 I gonna be glued to FF13 on PS3.

Here's a tutorial on how to upload a video on youtube
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O7iUiftbKU&feature=related
You don't have to make it of high quality(fraps will only slow your BFBC2 badly). Just take a close shot of your in-game settings before you play(multiplayer, lush jungles and snow map, mix in land and air battles) with a camcorder. I hope you can upload one asap! Note: The higher the quality the longer it takes to upload! :p

Here you go. I couldn't do multiplayer because my ISP is running like crap and I'm downloading torrent files. I'm also REALLY excited about FF13 for PS3 and am downloading videos on PSN about it at the same time.

I did a video with a licensed version of Fraps and it came out very good with very little slow down at a setting of 25 frames and half sized saved on my D partion. The con to that is that the video file size came out to be 448mb's and would take me forever to upload to youtube :(

I don't really pay too much attention to shadows so I always set them to low. When set to high I don't notice a difference in fps. Leaving them off lets me think that I'm going easier on my G71 :)

That wasn't the fps in the game that was the setting for fraps video record rate. I'm usually get 59 fps in Bad Company 2 with V-sync forced at my native res.

Make sure you update to the latest gpu drivers, right now they are 195.62. I also recommend downloading Nvidia Tools 6.05. They will allow you to properly set the gpu clocks.

    add me in Steam/PSN/XBL: skygunner27

    I updated to bios 1704. I don't use a cooler. You'll be alright.

I purchased a ASUS G71Gx-A2 back in November.

    http://www.amazon.com/G71Gx-A2-17-Inch-Gaming-Windows-Premium/dp/B002P3KMS0

    specs :product Features
    2.0GHz Intel Q9000 Core 2 Quad Processor
    6GB of DDR2 RAM, 3 slots, 6GB Max
640GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM), BluRay Disk Combo Drive
    17-Inch WUXGA LCD Display, NVidia GTX 260M Graphics with 1GB DDR3 VRAM, Wi-Fi 802.11 bgn, 2.0M Webcam
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) Operating System, Gaming Backpack and Gaming Mouse Included
    Processor, Memory, and Motherboard

    Hardware Platform: PC
Processor: 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad
    Number of Processors: 4
    RAM: 6 GB
    RAM Type: SDRAM
    Hard Drive

    Size: 640 GB
    Manufacturer: Portable
    Type: Serial ATA
    Graphics and Display

    Graphics RAM: 1 GB
    Cases and Expandability

Size (LWH): 16.4 inches, 12 inches, 2.2 inches
    Weight: 8.5 pounds

That model was fantastic!! It even had a OLED screen that showed Live messenger messages and CPU/Ram stats. It also had a Blu-ray player. I had to sell it because it had a 1920x1200 res screen and a Quad core at 2.00Ghz. It performed horribly at it's native res with the 260M GTX in games like Crysis, MW2 & Dark Void.

I think that the G71GX(BBY model) is the pefect choice for most games out of all the G71's. Congrats again on your purchase.

Because I'm about to leave to go pickup my FF13(PS3) & C.E. strategy guide at Bestbuy I'm going to be out of it here on the forums and may not respond in a timely manner. I'll try and respond here and there at work until my FF13 excitement dies down...lol

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I would recommend uninstalling the Asus Extreme Gear overclocking program. There are 2 programs installed for this one program to be installed. This program allows you to overclock the CPU to 2.9Ghz. On both the G71GX and A2 I experienced BSOD(Critical Kernel Error) in W7 with this program enabled. It also reset my Power Plan to Standard after every reboot. ANNOYING!! In games like Crysis and Street Fighter 4 that program when enabled caused me to loose FPS and achieve a lower benchmark in every game that has a benchmark. When OC'ed the CPU must try to over compensate the GPU's tasks. Who knows... After uninstalling...no more BSOD and memory dumps. And now I bootup in High Performance Power Plan that saves me about 15 seconds. I've also met other people with the G71 and G51JH that have removed this program because of BSOD in W7.

Yeah the A2 tempted me but i decided to go for the RRX05 because it's cheaper, and i can just replace the cpu if i wanted to(still cheaper).

I'm going to make a clean install of windows7, so any recommended asus programs that i can put to use, or just trash em all? Also, have you tried OC your P8700, settings? And where you able to permanently maintain your GPU clock speed?

Everything that I play runs great at default for my CPU. But my GPU is overclocked to Nvidia factory settings and since I removed Asus Extreme program it works perfect even after a reboot.
