Vista Beta2 still does not install on ASUS W3N. Blue screen saying "your PC is not fully ACPI compliant". WTF is this?! My PC is supposedly ACPI compliant, and I already filled a bug on ASUS a long time ago (beta 1). What did they do? NOTHING!
Thank you ASUS for letting me with a PC that will not run VISTA! Thank you so much.

I would say relax and give it time but i think you tried that already. The good news is that most probably this will be worked out "sometime" in the future. The more people complain the faster it will be worked out...

Yeah. But you can see http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=23762&highlight=vista
This problem is known by a long time ago, and asus didn't do nothing to fix it! I'm starting to get mad :( I want to try vista on this laptop, that was quite expensive and was still being sold not a long time ago.

Will they start ignoring support for 1 year old laptops?!

Probably if we (owners of W3N) don't do nothing, Vista RTM will not work also.
Why? Because ASUS don't seem to support older models. Last bios version for W3N is October. And they already knewd vista is not working due to a Bios Bug. Guess what? Thay didn't give a ****. And the model was selling back then.
Now that there are no more W3N being sold... I don't know what will they do.
Linux guys asked for proper ACPI bios a long time ago, but ASUS did not accomplish this.

... Well the W3j was the first Asus notebook sporting a "vista compatible" logo on the palmrest...... can't really blame Asus because vista verifying tools only became available a couple months ago and the W3n is going on 18 months old.... Any system with 512mb of ram and is directx 9 compatible should work with Vista, however Asus' focus is on new systems and although they support their older systems, a bios to fix this problem probably won't be out till Vista is available...... Asus has provided fixes like this in the past when XP didn't work for the same reason on ME machines......

I wouldn't worry about it, but telling Asus you have a machine that isn't Vista verified and you want to run a Beta OS.... you're not going to get a good responce, especially if you take an attitude with you when you talk to them. The best bet is to let them know of the issue and see if they can contact you when it's resolved......

and why is that. I completely missed your point there. When you figure it out, why dont you let the rest of us know why you buy brands like dell but not asus.

PROPortable, yeah, probably I was a bit rough. But I am very disapointed with ASUS for not providing a fix for this issue, even it is known by them.

ok sort of a little bit off topic, I've got BETA 2 running on my A6km, but for the life of me i cant get any nvidia display drivers to work. Keep getting a message saying that the driver installer cant find drivers for my device. Go7300.

I also found that i get the same message when trying to install the nvidia unifiled drivers under XP. Looks like the drivers HAVE to come from Asus, which is pretty annoying. I even tried putting the mobile .inf files into the setup files directory as stated you can do under XP to get the nvidia unified drivers working, but still no luck.. anyone else having problems?

no panicing, just interested to know why they require Asus drivers?

1024x768 on a 1280x800 screen doesnt look very nice at all!

Just bumping this topic to tell you that asus answered me about this issue with a "W3N is not a Vista capable PC" . So yeah ASUS, even my P4 1.5Ghz that has something like 5 years runs Vista, but not my 1 year old W3N.

When vista is released the w3n will run vista fine. It just will need a bios update and new drivers. there is no reason for asus to suppot a beta OS. when the final os it out things will be fine. most machines will run vista fine they arent talking about speed here.
