Just bought the UX31a from BestBuy. With my last Windows 8 laptop I was able to hook my micro HDMI audio and play videos through my TV and sound worked automatically. After hooking up UX31a the video plays and I do not have audio. The audio is coming out the computer but not through the HDMI. Are there any settings I need to find to get audio to play out through the stereo system speakers and not through computer system?

Change th playback device in Windows settings to the HDMI out, that should fix it.

Or if you are using Realtek software (HD audio manager)- you can also use the app in control panel under win 7

Either tijo's recommendation or JOSEA's should work. I thought audio was suppose to be defaulted to the external source, but perhaps not.

I thought it would default to the external source as well. WIth every other computer I have owned it has except this computer.

Have you updated the audio driver and chipset driver already?

Thanks Everyone. The solution as suggested was to select the HDMI source (Samsung TV) which worked.
